Men Of War

MoW is a superb WW2 game with very realistic physics and effects. Buildings will crumble to bits when struck by shells, men will be sent tumbling out of windows or through the floor as the building collapses. Tank shells will deflect off of different surfaces and penetrate others (making for truly immersive and varied tank warfare).
The graphics are good but certainly not at the highest standard (i dont mind though as the gameplay more than makes up for it).

The singleplayer in the game is actually very good (i normally hate RTS single player) as it has ALOT of levels and many of them require multiple attempts and revised strategies to complete although, as mentioned by several others, the voice acting is laughable at times, it's almost like they have just gone up to some random person in the street and asked them to read from a piece of paper quickly :D

The multiplayer is also very good, with several game modes to choose from and an incredible (for RTS) 16 player game limit.

Overall a very good game and you will get your money's worth in gameplay hours. The reason i only gave it 4 stars is firstly, because of the voice acting and secondly because of the multiplayer lobby...it does need work and it often takes a while to get into games, with people leaving at the last minute or halfway through a game (very annoying when you are in a 16 player game!)

One thing i will say though, is that somebody should make a game just like this (great physics and realism) but as a first person shooter, it would be awsome to see a tiger tank drive through the house you are standing next to. Or to throw an AT grenade at a building to flush out enemy troops. It really is a great engine as the battlefields are entirely distructable.

What a beautiful little gem. Behind a rather bland title, and an even more boring cover lies an absolutely amazing WW2 RTS game. As i stated in my title, it is so much better than Company of Heroes. The battles are bigger, the graphics are beautiful and the gameplay... It is the maginificant gameplay that lets Men of War stand head and shoulders above its counter parts.

Much larger battles than any previous WW2 RTS gives the game some real scale. The ability/need to scavange weapons and ammo from corpses littering the battlefield is just a tiny glimpse of how brutal war is. Along with this brutality comes the realism, soldiers can shoot, and bullets kill...quickly. If you dont spot that MG before it sees you, your entire squad will be dead before you can blink. Sometimes a single hit can take down a valued squad member, tactics and patience are your friends.

Buildings collapse, Tanks can be damaged in a plethera of different ways, Soldiers can use bandages and morphine to heal. This game has everything. An added ability that allows players to directly control a character is also a welcome addition. Using your rifleman to pick off that pesky last Nazi, or take control of your tank to fire that High Explosive Round just at the perfect time for maximum damage. This game really does have depth.

I really struggled to give this 4 stars as i wanted to give it 5. However, the game does have one problem, all be it tiny and not important to the gameplay itself. The problem....voice acting. It seems the makers of Men Of War hired two men that couldn't do a Russian accent to save their lives. The poor voice acting can be forgiven, the gameplay is soo good, the makers could have given every soldier a pink fluffy hat, and you wouldn't bat an eye.

£17.99 - It will be one of the best buys you make for a while, guarunteed. Especially as all the big name games aren't gracing us with their presence until Q3-Q4 time.

Perhaps im singing the games praises to early but can you blame me, so far this year the biggest selling RTS's of the PC have ether failed to deliver or have being riddles with bugs due to publishes forcing the game to be rushed out the door without its trousers on. So is the grim reality of the game industry. Men of war has been delayed quite allot to bring you a polished working RTS with the depth and complexity of a RTS, RTT and an RPG due to the inventory system which brings back shades of another indie PC title (Stalker Shadow of Chernobyl) Each of one of your men or as like to call them "fodder" will be equipped with a certain amount of grenades and bullets but once those run out the poor conscript,Grenadier, Riflemen etc will be trying to beat back the might of German army with this fists. In order to keep your soldiers stocked up and firing on all cylinders your going to need to aware of the looting mechanic. Yes just like Stalker and most other RPG.s you can loot your opposition grabbing his gear his ammo heck even his hat which so delightfully adorned his head before you separated it from the rest of his the body. In the commando e sq missions or with a handful of men under your command this can be allot fun if your good with micro. The game doesn't just give you a handful of men though, in many missions you will be tasked with holding or attacking certain enemy strong holds and defensive lines for this you will have allot of men under your command luckily these missions allow you to call in support via points you get from destroying the enemy so ammo conservation isn't an issue when these missions happen to come along.
The game is ruthlessly accurate when it comes to unit design and capabilities. The amount of tanks, artillery and anti infantry units and vehicles will have the WW2 enthusiasts foaming at the mouth and if the prospect of controlling your favourite soviet, German or Allied tanks wasn't enough you also have the option to commandeer an enemy tank if its hull hasn't been substantially damaged, repair it and use it for your own wicked ends. The cover system is also a real god send as position is key and tanks will own very quickly so to help you position your men just right ghost images of your soldiers appear before making the selection so you will know exactly where and even how they will stand its a very impressive tweaked cover system of course not without its flaws. The unit path finding in this game can be pretty bad at times and since your units are made of paper when it comes to enemy mg emplacements you'll want to keep an eye out for your units well being. Often the tanks will get stuck on the environment causing you unnecessary time and effort rotating and shifting your tank until its free it happens but not all the time. The voices are go awful but thanks to deep and involving game play you'll just tune them out eventually and look upon them as some much needed comedy relief from the intense struggle you will undertake. Yes there is a co-op but I have yet to test it so I cannot give my opinion on it yet sorry :(.
So to wrap this up the game Men of War does what allot of highly rated RTS fail to do and just gives you so many other choices and ways to play in short maybe the RTS masses should start to look toward the Indies because this title proves that a budget title can include options some highly rated RTS's can only dream off.

This game has everything. The attention to detail is amazing and so realistic.One slight drawback is that it is quite difficult even on easy level so there is no opportunity to go in and destroy just for the fun of it but that is just a small gripe. I bought one of the earlier games( Soldiers Heroes of WW2) when it came out way back in 2002 I think and that is also a super game.All in all this improves on the great games that have gone before.Excellent!

Brilliant game, tactical, detailed, big maps and plenty of missions. Multiplayer CO-OP is excellent. The graphics are just fantastic with explosions, lights busting, machine gun fire, detailed damage on vehicles, craters, all dead men and vehicles stay on the battlefield. Stacks of weapons and vehicles, items!

Direct control lets you play as characters and vehicles by using cursor keys and aiming with the mouse.
