5 One of the best deals aroundDevilMayCare | 31/05/2008 | See all DevilMayCare's reviews (18)If you're thinking of getting this collection, then now is the time to do it at just £18!! Another great deal from Play.com.The games in this collection, although fairly similar, are all very enjoyable. I don't think it was until the second expansion, Dark Crusade, that Dawn of War took the biggest change in direction, with the single player game changing to a conquest campaign where you take over the world. Then in Soulstorm this expands to taking over several planets. The units are well designed and varied with each race, and each expansion adds new units to each faction. As well as adding whole new factions, such as the Tau and the Dark Eldars. As I already said, all the games are relatively similar, but there are enough additions to the gameplay with each installment so it never gets boring. The only problem with the collection is that there is very little advancement in terms of graphics. The same engine was used for each one and by the time Soulstorm came out, it really showed, especially considering that Dawn of War came out three years before Soulstorm.Another thing, you definitely don't have to play the Warhammer board game to enjoy these games. Personally, I think that the board game is actually kind of sad. I don't mean any offence but it just seems a waste to spend ridiculous amounts of money on little models then stand around playing a game you had to learn from a £20 book.Overall a great buy, Dawn of War is one of the best RTS's I've played. Although it doesn't have top end graphics like Company of Heroes or Universe at War, it is every bit as good in terms of playabilty, strategy and just general fun as any of the more recent RTS's to have come out.Highly recommended.
