PES 2009 is the latest installment of the award-winning Pro Evolution Soccer Series, which is known by millions of fans for its superior gameplay and incredible realism. For PES 2009, Konami is already planning a raft of extensive new additions that will further bridge the gap between PES and the real thing. The new game has undergone a stunning graphical update to ensure its players look and move even more like their real-life counterparts. Similarly, all-new options allow users to tailor the game to their own tastes, while new moves, innovative new control elements and key online elements will further the realism of the new game.
  • Fully Licensed UEFA Champions League mode
  • Official Liverpool and Manchester United teams
  • New player models, AI elements and physics routines
  • 'Become a Legend' mode - Start your career as a rookie midfielder or striker and work your way through the ranks to become a pro. Play in your favourite attacking position and work as part of a team, as opposed to controlling every player.
  • 'Legends' online mode - Use your saved 'Become a Legend' player in online matches with like-minded friends, and show off your skills on the larger online stage.
  • Redefined intricacies of first touch, close control and ball distribution
  • Enhanced shooting and AI mechanisms
  • The new control system makes full use the D-Pad and analogue stick to perform contextual tricks and feints within the players run.
  • Weather, air resistance and ground friction all have an affect on the balls motion - alter your play to match the conditions just like in real-life.
  • Teamvision AI has been extended allowing computer controlled team mates to adapt their tactics more realistically.
  • A reworked Master League means a players' loyalty and mood now affects their performance on the pitch.
  • Enhanced realism through aesthetic updates, including stadium environments and atmosphere.
  • Improved depth of field through the use of contrast for a greater sense of distance.
  • New vertical camera that automatically switches to a close-up view during key one-on-one situations.

I have been a pro evo fan since the dawn of time and again this years installment does not disappoint. For me its the realism of the game that makes it streets ahead of other football sims (ok FIFA). I have heard people complaining about being sent off and booked to easily but the fact is that's football these days, if you stay on your feet you stay out the book. Scoring goals isn't too easy but its not impossible either, and you will succeed better with tactics (build the play slowly, hit them on the counter attack etc). Graphics are of a quality you expect and commentary gets turned off as soon as the game is switched on (I have never liked this on any footy sim), some sound effects could be better I suppose but all in all its pretty good.
The new Become A Legend mode is a nice touch (in fact I am addicted).
What else can I say, Love football, Love PES.

 Demo Played! Impressed!

I was very skeptical about playing this demo on my pc as its not got the best specs but to my surprise I found the game just as playable as ever!

Some points to take note:
1. Gameplay improved upon yet again. Players move much more intelligently around the field. Defenders close down much quicker and you cannot simply run around a player as easily as before.
2. Much more a passing game with time having to be taken to build the play.
3. Graphics look great even on my pc so 360 and PS3 versions should have no problems. No slow down etc.. (fingers crossed)
4. Goalkeepers are still a problem. Parrying balls that they shouldn't and not getting into great positions.

Overall the game is yet another improvement from last year (as far as the demo goes) but will probably have to rely on new features to get new players on board.

 Better than ever!

I was slightly disappointed by 2008 as I did not think that it made much of a step forward; I cannot level the same complaint against 2009. The game feels much more natural to play and just seems much smoother. Also pace actually makes a difference when going for the ball finally. For instance, Agbonlahor suddenly becomes a difficult player to play against as opposed to last year when he was useless.
The AI has also got much better this year with computer teams much more difficult to predict.
However, the real difference is option to just control 1 player on the pitch. This may sound like a gimmick but it is really fun playing as a striker and timing your runs just right or player as a defender and positioning yourself perfectly to intercept a cross which is something you cannot really do in the normal mode.
So all in all a great Pro Evo

 Well...

Well, I can't really say much as I've only played the demo, but it was damn good - a massive improvement over 2008! The thing I enjoy most is the the opposition teams play real, intelligent, attacking football... less of the possession football that has ruined the PES franchise over the years. I enjoyed 6, but it had many flaws, PES 2008 was a backwards and forwards step at the same time, but overall I didn't enjoy it too much. I found that 2009 takes the good aspects of both games to make a far better game than the previous two!

A whole lost better than last year

I am quite impressed with the demo and have played it continously with the 90min extender. Can't wait to get the full version.
