FIFA Manager 09 gives you full control over the management of a football club. You are responsible for the line-up, the tactics and the training of your team - as well as for signing the right players, improving the club facilities and the stadium. It is also important that you maintain good relationships with your players, the board, the sponsors and the press. But FIFA Manager 09 goes further. Managing your national team is one of the options, playing as a player manager is another one (in this case you can even control your player on the pitch). And then there is the ultimate challenge: found your own club and work your way up the leagues to finally become Champions!

New Line-up and Tactics: FIFA Manager 09 includes brand-new line-up and tactics sections. Both are easy to use - but with a new level of depth. Individual orders like tackles, forward runs, passing style, crossing position and frequency are as well available as the options to define special roles like captain, free kick taker, playmaker and target man.

3D Match: The new fully customisable user interface gives the user full control over the players on the pitch. Substitutions and tactical changes are just one mouse click away - tables, team and player stats can be displayed permanently on the screen if the user wants the information.

New Text Mode: FIFA Manager 09 brings the text mode to the next level. The new mixture of Internet live ticker and traditional live commentary is both exciting and informative. Player skills and tactics become clearly visible. The massive use of the context of the match (importance, weather, fans, etc.) brings the text to life.

Improved Interface: The main menu widget system includes 10 new widgets, buttons to switch all widgets simultaneously and an option to rotate the widgets automatically.

Staff: The new Staff feature includes many new positions like fitness coach, talent scout and lawyer. The manager has to keep the staff happy by giving the team interesting jobs and challenges - as well as to pay them competitive salaries.

Story of a Season v.3: This popular feature goes into its third season. For the first time FIFA Manager 09 uses video technology to present special stats and tables.

Database and Editor: FIFA Manager 09 comes with even more licensed leagues. The database includes now far more than 1,500 clubs and 25,000 players. More than 7,000 of these players are represented with real-life pictures. An extensive editor ships with the game.

The FM series has always been a good franchise up until this one. I bought this from the EA store on release and it is insanely packed with game breaking bugs, the worst one being that at random, you can watch a 3D match (one of it's main features) and you will watch your team win 3-0, only to exit and find out the game has registered it as a 2-1 loss or some other strange result.

It also has issues with staff changing their jobs at random, and if you play in text mode, you can find yourself winning 20-0 and other extreme non-realistic scores. You can end up having your scout looking after training, your stadium manager picking the team, and all sorts of wierd and wonderful random mistakes.

I have only touched upon a few of the many many bugs the game has, there are way too many to list, but if you head over to the game's (apparent) official forums you will see masses of posts about problems.

Last year's FM08 was released with minimal bugs but this year the game is unplayable. There is also no support from EA and you have to rely on visiting a German based mod forums to gain any information. It also seems as if the developers are hoping the scene's modders will be the ones to fix the game as EA haven't even acknowledged the game's existence on their own support site yet.

Avoid unless EA officially patch it properly.

I can't stop playing the new fifa manager, but there is a hell of a lot to improve. Alot of customers will buy this product for its 3d match tool, which hasn't actually been improved. There's alot of faults such as random commentry, offsides given for no reason, freekicks inside the area, penalties given for tackles outside the area, penalties not taken on the spot, goalkeepers catching the ball outside the area. These errors really are essential to the game, and there isn't an excuse really, they shouldn't release the game if it's full of errors. I haven't tried the patch but you shouldnt have to use it really.

There is alot of other things I could pick out, such as lack of transfers in the first season, no reserve league, no conference teams, surely if football manager can add this then why can't fifa manager? there's no restrictions, its just senseless. The scouting system doesnt work properly, I'll scout a player and I'll go to check his information, and he isn't even existent in my scout list. I've seen players being signed who I can't sign because they can't get a work permit, although there moving to the country that I manage in. This could be an amazing game, but there really is a huge, huge amount to improve. These games tend to get better, but this one has actually gotten worse.

            Sort it out EA!

This review should help those who are torn between the different manager games which one can buy. Listen carefully, if you can't wait for the next football manager game to be released then I would advise you to buy this game. This manager sim is very different, it has very good skins, luckily it has Premiership and other league club logos, but where it dissapoints is that this game is quite hard to navigate, whereas in football manager one can click anything to bring up details (i.e club or player details) to bring up details or find players or even filter is quite annoying. The 3D match system is quite impressive with being able to make substitutions quite easily and change tactics, you are virtually watching a football match like you would on TV.

This game is generally fun to play it hasn't got the crisp navigation of lets say Football Manager, but after time you adjust to the system. The background music is also quite good. Overall this game will keep you going until the other manager sims come out. Enjoyable EA have done well with this, Navigation lets you down however.

             Poor at best....

I am a football manger fan, and have both this and Football Manager 09. this cannot even hope to compare. it is slow, the menus are cluncky and it takes 3 minutes to process 2 news items. there are pointless parts to the game, such as having to buy a house and gett skills in boating. All my players had run out of energy after 1 game, and none of the players have proper Potential Abilities. I cannot criticise the 3D view though; as it did not work, and I have a very modern computer. I was quite dissapointed with this game.
