Football manager 2009 is the best manager game out there, i can sit and play it for hours upon hours, and the way they have revamped the game skins ect is much better and easier to use, the new 3d match engine is a great addition, and with all the updated going's on its a joy, the only problem ive had with it is when it loads up the game there are two green/purple boxes in the bottom right hand corner, one of them will dissapear but the other will remain for quite a while so seeing press conference, accepting, rejecting tranfers offers, ect is hard so you have to guess at what your clicking on, bought two copies of the game and the second one did the same so dont have a clue whats gone on there but if you want a real managerial football game with all the fun and frolics buy it!!!!!!!!!!!!

  Extremely addictive but fun

This is the most addictive thing ever. You will play this for hours on end. You will buy too many players. You will spend too much money and go into administration. You will play for twenty years in the game and go through many players. For football fans this is gold. For students out there take it easy with this as your grades will go down. Addictive is an understatement

Great game and totally addictive. Having not played a fm game for a few years, I didn't know whether I'd get back into the swing of things... but I did and soon became addicted.

There are still the old cheats to employ too... e.g. take control of the team you have next on the fixture list for a laugh and play reserves out of position and down the sides of the pitch. I walloped Tottenham 39-0 this way and that itself was a laugh.

That aside, this is a great game and if you go into the editor, you can have more fun with player attributes and skills.

There seems to have been install problems when game was first out , due to so many copys trying to be registered at same time.

The problem is sorted so fear not.

If you loved fm08 etc then you will love this one , there the same game but with things added etc , it all makes upto a hell off a better game.

Best yet once you learn it all , dont down star it coz you arent that good on it , look at it for what it is , and it delivers on all fronts , aswome managment experience , and top of the league!

30 Games in and i am unbeaten! :)

  Football Manager 2009

Football Manager is as addictive as ever, which on its own makes it enjoyable to play, however there are certain aspects of the game that make it frustrating:

I've started several games on it now and I've found it very hard to get teams promoted whilst playing with lower league teams - the amount of injuries I'm getting is not helping my cause either, even switching formations, tactics etc is not helping.

Whilst the injuries that I'm getting and the lack of change from different tactics is frustrating, you will still enjoy this game if your a fan of FM like me.

Goof game but one or two problems

This game is very addictive and can wreck marriages, but there are one or two issues.

For anyone who buys this game, after loading it onto your system get the 9.3.0. patch, which can be downloaded from the Sports Interactive website. Before this patch was released, I found the game very frustrating. The teams that I chose, no matter what tactics were used, tended to go around in circles whereby you could not put together a consistent run of results together. Also, from a playing point of view, the game engine's AI had one or two problems which the patch fixed.

The two patches 9.2.0 and 9.3.0, which you need to download, fix a lot of issues, but one gets the feeling that the release of this game was somewhat rushed and that is why it only scores 3 stars.

Nearly a good game but the tactical flaws let it down

I am a long standing fan of the Football Manager (and previously Championship Manager) series after a misspent youth! There are aspects of this game that are an improvement such as the 3D match engine and the press conferences. However, after over a decade of successfully playing the game and winning big trophies with lowly teams, I have been totally unable to find formations or tactics which works. The tactics options seem less responsive than previous editions and unfortunately this has spoilt the gaming experience for me. Despite my numerous attempts with a number of different teams, I have not managed to create successful tactics which has become extremely frustrating. I have never experienced the above problems with any previous FM or CM.

With this in mind I would hesitate to recommend this game ahead of FM08.

pottypete - the reason you don't like the game is because you have not updated to the 9.3.0 version, you are on the 9.2.0 version. I agree that version is terrible but if you update, you will see that the game is still quality. I have had this game since the week it came out and unlike the other FM games, I am still playing it in July. For all football fans, you want a game which is realistic and this is that game. The BEST yet and I cannot wait until 2010. Just wish it came out in September!

  FM09 Pile of Rubbish

Worst release so far in the fm series and SI know it and so does us the general public.
Why pay for this game when 07 and 08 was better all you get in 09 is a rubbish 3d match engine which needs work on.
Dont waste your money on this version wait for fm10 where they might get it right.

  A step forwards

Once again the bar has been raised by the team behind the most succesful football management sim ever made.

Slight tweaks from FM 08 have been made including a 3D match engine and press conferences that have made the game even better than ever.

Some people do struggle to adapt to the changes made to the tactics engine and therefore leave negative reviews but any Football Manager fan will be left feeling that they are experiencing the most complete football management sim ever made when playing this game.

Thanks SI. looking forward to FM 2010!

P.S. Any faults regarding injuries lots of red cards etc have been fixed in the latest patch (9.3.0).
