WWI published by AGEod is a terrible game.
It was sold few months ago at alpha development level: bugged, unfinished, unstable, doc unsupported.
In last weeks and then months, many patches followed: any new patch has been announced as the solution to game troubles. The true is quite different: the game is far being bug free. A fatal crash will often waste your enjoyment and the hours spent after the scenario you were playing.
The complex game manual is till being written, updated and completed: it's not clear if all features reported have been already enable in the game.
The graphic and the sound are outdated. Game instability is also to be referred to GPU and Audio processor incompatibility issues: it's a proof of low professionalism in matter of game development and support.
Playing the game is a coil of complex, undefined rules and bugs that users have to wriggle out. The map orientation and the poor game interface do not help.
Definitely, a game to forget.
Save your money for best games.
After years of waiting for a decent ww1 game what a disappointment. 9 Hours of play & not 1 battle,6 of those hours spent waiting on a1 to make its move, even the small scenarios your left waiting for the enemy to engage until your so fed up & frustrated you turn your pc off. A one star rating is too much!
This game will have you working out your warmachine of that time in a long and tough fight to bring the end to what they thougt then was the end to all wars. The game at the begining before i got the latest patch had bugs mostley hangups... Patch v1.0.6a made the game run sweet, it can be found ont the official site for the game so if you enjoy history and would like to change it give it a go q;-)
This game was launched with more bugs than an Indiana Jones movie and on release it was virtually unplayable.
It's a shame because it's clear from the forums on the Ageod website that the game was rushed out to meet their distributor's deadlines and the company has taken a bashing as a result.
However there have been a constant stream of patches since release and it's clear that Ageod are determined to see this game come good, in my opinion with the latest patch it's just about there.
The game itself is ambitious and something of a dream come true for strategy gamers. There are a number of scenarios ranging from short operations in smaller theatres of war to the full on world wide conflict. The Two sides (Central powers - Austria Hungary, Germany - and the Entente - Russia, France, Serbia), are the only playable nations in 1914 but there are many other nations that can be 'persuaded' to join your alliance, however historical allegiances do play a part and it's rare, for instance, for Great Britain to not join the Entente before the end of 1914.
Turns represent one month and are broken down into moving, fighting, special events, diplomacy and reinforcement phases. Beyond this you can also control your nations research and production rates. Armies are represented between divisional and corp level and navies at squadron level. There's a great variety of troops, ships and leaders all of which feel historically right.
The music and general ambience of the game really serve to capture the feel of the historical period.
Yes it was a lump of coal at release but Ageod have chipped away and they've uncovered a diamond.
The glamorous presentations and anticipations from ageod have been fully disappointed!
The game hit the stores, 2 months ago, in a pre-beta state, severely bugged, unstable and unfinished!
The complex game was release without a game-manual support: The paper manual included in the box does not even include basic rules. The electronic rules-book quoted in the paper manual was not included in the installation dvd because not yet edited!
Two months later the game release, although many patching attemps the game is far to be stable and completed!
But the fact it's hard to play two game turns is sequence without game crashes and fatal errors, the game does not offer any of the anticipated features.
I was wandering where is the "unequalled historically-flavored look and detail levels" stated in game box as in public, official presentation.
I noticed ageod few of wwi air aces were in the game: I offered my cooperation to search.
Then i had to point out that no care for historical detail was present as regard that matter!
At first philthib, (ageod) posted to blame me stating most air aces are historical!
I replied quoting specific examples then documented by fonts......
Put in front of evidenced philthib stated "it does not matter, this is a game...".
So whre is the stated "unequalled historically-flavored look and detail levels".
It looks like wwi is having same historical accuracy level as risik!
But that risik has clear rules, and when played on pc version is a stable game.
Wwi could be in perspective a great wwi game: Actually is the worst pc game i bought.
Save your money: Do not buy it!
