The Last Remnant

Please don't read reviews when all they base their 1 star score on how rubbish the controls were. Even I KNOW that the controls from Console to PC are going to be hard. I find FPS's on Consoles hard, but rarely do you seen people moaning about them.

Onto the review:

First off, this game is amazing visually, been a long time since I've enjoyed watching every cut scene in a game. On full High Settings, you can enjoy every aspect to your content.

The voice acting is reasonable, nothing cringe worthy yet, maybe 'Dave' is a bit grinding, but you can't shun a game on one iffy voice.

The battle system is not random combat, most of the time its player controlled, where the player makes an active decision whether to attack or not. Ofcourse you get attacked by monsters, and here is where it gets interesting. If you attack a monster, you get an advantage throughout the fight, however if you are attacked, then you suffer a disadvantage. This moves me onto the battle… more »

First off, this game is amazing visually, been a long time since I've enjoyed watching every cut scene in a game. On full High Settings, you can enjoy every aspect to your content.

The battle screen is a bit daunting at the start, lots of sub screens and menu's but using the arrow keys and ENTER key makes it much easier to use. In the fight, you start off in a sort of group, not individual characters, although they are more noticable. These groups are called Unions, and can be made up on various members, not just the key characters. They have separate moves/turns and act the same as each other. However, be warned that even though you may have 2 (or more) units in a Union, even if one unit is repeatably hit, it spreads out across your entire Union, and you'll find that with Monsters as well. There is the normal "Attack" "Magic" and "Skills" as well as Automated options per turn. However its not a side-view battlefield like previous FF games, but a bit more like Vagrant Story, where positioning on the field can aid or disadvantage you. For example, if you send one Union in to attack one monster group out of three, and your other one to use magic, your firs Union may become flanked, and suffer massive damage and, Morale.

Morale is a new thing for me, where you and the monsters have Morale. However, this isn't the 'Will' of the units, and knocking it down does not make units flee (as far as I know) but gain Morale through Flank Attacks and all your units gain damage boosts and the monsters loose attack power. However loose Morale and you suffer the same, lower damage dealt and more received. There is also "Reaction" events, where you have to hit a certain button (unfortunatly still in Xbox360/PS3 langauge) so it is a pain not being able to hit "X or B" on the keyboard when you don't know where the hell it is. You can also automate this event, but you have only a random chance to succeed in getting the reaction event done. However that being said, it might be better than banging your head on the keyboard praying for the right key in time. Find he right keys tho, and you are sorted. Also, another plus is, that at the end of every battle, you get fully healed :D

However, this game is pretty hard to control, the camera angle can make you feel sick, and the constant "LETS KICK SOME ASS" from Rush can get on your nerves (easily sorted tho). So, apart from the controls, this game is fun to play, different to try, and a breath of fresh air on the PC. Though the controls may push people over the edge, and the camera makes me feel sick anyways (though could just be me). Don't let anything else put you off, you might as well try it out for the price is being sold for these days.

Don't listen to the negative reviews on here, the PC version of this game out ways the Xbox 360 by a HUGE amount longs you have a computer that can run the game (does not work well on laptops)
let me put this striate, the Xbox 360 version only allows you 1 general per union and only 5 Generals in the game, the rest of the team is made up of minions (rubbish fighters) while the PC version allows an unlimited amount of generals which you can place in and position on up to 6 unions, to compensate for this extra power they have increased the power of monsters and bosses making them harder to kill also making the battle much more interesting. I have to mention that the Xbox 360 version slows down a huge amount while battling making the button sequences difficult to press (making you miss critical opportunities more)

The game storyline isn't one of squares best but it still grabs your full attention making you want to play the game more just to find out what is going to come next. Top marks

The battle system although frustrating at first is very basic and easy to learn as stated previously most of your time should be spent in upgrading your gear and getting the best formations, (flankers, healers, Interceptors, tanks est.)

Graphics are absolutely stunning and square cannot be faulted for the cinematic's rivalling that of blizzard entertainments.

I suggest you go for gold and buy this game (IF) your computer can cope with the graphics...
