You have saved your home island from the forces of evil in Gothic and Gothic II. Now it is time to travel to the realms of the mainland. Invading Orcs have enslaved the human kingdom. There are but a few free humans in the icy north and the southern desert and a handful of rebels hiding in the forests and mountains of Midland. You may either join the rebellion or serve the Orcish Usurpers but you will ultimately tip the scales and decide the outcome of the last war to save humanity. There is no simple linear story in Gothic 3 - every game will be different and unique - but all will ultimately lead to you deciding the fate of humankind.
  • Specially designed easy combat system
  • Clear main goals - story driven yet dictated by player's choice
  • Huge free-roaming world - virtually no boundaries
  • Advanced human behavior AI for hundreds of individual characters with full audio dialogues
  • Countless side-quests for the player to choose from
  • Over 50 different monsters and animals and dozens of human enemies
  • Over 50 different powerful spells and over a hundred different weapons
  • Unique class-free character development

 Not for the lowly computer

firstly, yes gothic 3 is amazing. it's is one of the best RPG's i've ever played and that is saying something. However, my computer struggles to even run it. I've got 2gb ram and a 7800 nvidia graphics card with a 3ghz processor and it won't run properly without turning down or even off all the high end graphics. So my advice is make sure your computer is up to scratch, maybe even with a core 2 processor, which it recommends inside the manual, but not on the box.

But if you can, then get this game and enjoy it!!!

I first bought Gothic around 6 years ago and I was glued to the screen for hours on end, you couldn't pull me away, no toilet breaks, no food just the game, and if it's possible I was even more addicted to this one. Gothic 3 is my favourite game and rightly so. The AI is astonishing, the graphics are out of this world, the story is jaw dropping and the combat is so intensely amazing it made me cry. Some people may say this is just another fantasy, middle-age, role playing game but this is so far from it.

The combat is thrilling and so much fun. You start off in a fight for this outpost that has seen better days and have a fun bash em' up to liberate it. In Gothic 3 your main objective is to take every single city in the whole world (obviously scaled way way down into a place called Myrtana) by liberating them. There are two ways to liberate a city. Find help from local people or go on a very farfetched 'one man assault' (you have already guessed my favourite). It is fairly hard to liberate a whole city on your own but entirely possible (and boy does it feel good). The quests in the game all guide you in the right direction if you follow the right path (if you don't so what you have liberated everywhere so your finished already). There are a wide variety of weapons, spells and skills which will aid you in your quest to retake Myrtana from the orcs.

The graphics in this game should just about run on any machine from 2004 onwards but are so much better on an up to date one. The graphics with the right machine are outstanding and a thing that Pirahna Bytes should definitely be proud of.

Unfortunately there are no online capabilities but with a game like this, to be honest, who needs them. You will love this game from start to finish for millions and millions of times.

The landscape and map in this game are fantastic, you have a huge map full of forests, deserts, greenland, icy peeks and coastal reigons not to mention the amount of detail payed attention to inside of the actual cities.

As I said in the start of this review THIS IS THE BEST GAME EVER YOU MUST BUY, YOU MUST BUY THIS GAME AND THE REST OF THE TRILOGY. Forget Crysis, forget whatever new coming games are around the corner YOU MUST BUY THIS GAME.

 Beautiful and Engrossing

I am running this on Vista, 2gig RAM and 7900 GS graphics and the video settings on medium/high, runs very well and looks incredible - but make sure you have at lease the latest official patch and I have just installed v1.4 of an unofficial player made patch, all works great.

This game is so atmospheric and challenging, it's enjoyable just running around and doing basic quests - there are so many to do which help build your character and immerse you into the world.

The world is huge so it will take hours of your life away but it is so very enjoyable working out how to play and where to go.

I have taken a star off because the combat is a bit basic, if you attack 10 beasts/orcs/bandits then they will fight you one at a time, not very realistic but if they get a few blows in you can die quickly so it is not necessarily easy.

This IMO is the best in the series, the other 2 were linear by comparison and smaller, there will be a fourth but not by the same developer. If you haven't played the others and enjoy RPG's then I would recommend all 3.

So highly recommended if you are looking for an enjoyable and engrossing game, make sure your hardware is up to it and that you patch up though. Finally, all Gothic games are tough to get into, but are well worth the effort.

Good game, but has glaring flaws.

Being a big fan of the Gothic series, Gothic 3 was a must-buy for me. However, while the game is a worthy addition, it also has more than its fair share of problems.

The issues are far too numerous to list here, ranging from graphical problems and poor performance to broken quests and random CTDs. While there are a few official patches available, none of them do a decent job in correcting these flaws.

The good news is that the community has stepped in, and there are a host of mods and unofficial patches which do a great job of making Gothic 3 fully playable. With them installed you can enjoy great gameplay, plenty of quests, a large world, and a very long storyline.

Overall, well worth buying for any RPG fan.
