Prey tells the story of Tommy, a Cherokee garage mechanic stuck on a reservation going nowhere. His life changes when an otherworldly crisis forces him to awaken spiritual powers from his long-forgotten birthright. Abducted along with his people to a menacing mothership orbiting Earth, he sets out to save himself and his girlfriend and eventually his planet.
Prey is serious, dark story, based on authentic Cherokee mythology. Themes of sacrifice, love and responsibility are explored and the story dives into emotional territory not yet explored by similar games.
In Prey, gamers enter an unpredictable world where nothing can be taken for granted. Most of the game takes place within a living ship, a giant entity that can sense and react to Tommy's presence.
Prey makes use of Joseph's Campbell's renowned story structure, "The Hero's Journey," for guiding the main character arc. Campbell's extensive work on mythological story progression was made famous when George Lucas used it for Luke Skywalker's story arc in the original Star Wars.

Prey is one of those games that should be great; in fact it should be awesome, but for me it just falls short.

I can't be the only person who thinks that all games made with the Doom 3 graphics engine look exactly the same, and for my money not that good either. Admittedly Quake Wars is looking set to change this with a bang, as that looks amazing.

But anyway, back to Prey. After a great intro sequence involving our hero being rudely plucked from his local bar by aliens, we are dumped into an alien environment, and from there it's so-so FPS action all the way.

For me it's one of those games that never grabbed me or managed to get me interested in the story, which is a shame as I loved the premise, just not the execution. I found Quake 4 and Doom 3 similarly underwhelming, so perhaps if you enjoyed them this will be more up your alley. Maybe I'm just allergic to the Doom 3 engine!

For me the last great single player arcade shooter was Soldier of Fortune 2 (if you could stomach the violence!). More recently the best shooters have been multiplayer affairs or take the more strategic approach. For the former, Battlefield2 is fantastic (Battlefield 2142 is not so good, despite being newer). In the case of strategic shooters, Rainbow 6: Vegas is excellent, although heavy on the resources (just don't get Rainbow 6: Lockdown as it's abysmal!). Alternatively, SWAT4 is a very good game.

I hope my thoughts have been helpful!

 Great sci-fi shooter!

Excellent game, although quite linear compared to many modern shooters. Graphics are good, providing you have up to date graphics hardware, unlike some other reviewers... (remember novice PC builders, RAM and CPU don't count for anything if the GPU is rubbish!)
The gravity puzzles and portals make the game twist and turn in a unique way, and it's worth buying the game just to see some of the crazy alien enemies!
This is a bargin!

 Wow!

What a game! I've never seen something like this before, it's a very original FPS with genial level design (now I understand why it took so long to develop the game).
Graphically it is very impressive, I think that it has even a better graphic than FEAR.
As said before the gameplay is very original, with all this "gravity situations" where you have to change the gravity of the place with some switches to pass through. The game is not easy, but in fact you never die because when you do you are transported in a "death walk" where you shoot at spirits and you regain you life...so the continue use of the Quick save in this game doesn't apply.

 Great game

Prey is a great game and features a unique gameplay style. You have the ability on Prey to walk on wall platforms so you can walk upside down or side walk. The game has a pretty good story but the game isn't that long, not one that will last for a long time. Didn't take me long to complete it, and there is no real insentive for playing it again.

The multiplayer side isn't very great, not many servers either. I didn't see any at all but that was back when it first was released, might be more popular now.

 Unusually Good Game

I've always been fond of First Person shooters, and I wasn't too keen on this one to start with, but I gave it a chance and I was rather pleased.
A very clever, puzzling, action packed game, where Earth has been "harvested" by a strange alien world known as "the sphere"
Definatly worth playing, on either the Xbox360 or the pc, however If you have a very powerful computer with a good graphic card, Prey does look sharper on the PC
A very good game, worth playing
