In this highly anticipated next installment in the Age of Empires franchise from Ensemble Studios, Age of Empires III places players in the time period of roughly 1500-1850, picking up where Age of Empires II: The Age of Kings left off. As players work to establish their empire, they will take on the role of a European power struggling to explore, colonise and conquer North and South America.

Age of Empires III introduces exciting new gameplay elements, including the all-new Home City and an incredible combat system. Players will find new civilisations to discover, random maps to conquer and a single-player campaign unlike any other. Players also will find stunning graphics as a result of a revolutionary graphics engine that pushes the limits of PC graphics technology in an entirely new way.
  • Engage in epic strategic battles. As players control the action, they can experience a new level of exciting combat with realistic physics effects, and have the option of engaging in battle with blades, gunpowder or both. Victory depends on the player's strategic battle plan.
  • Develop and strengthen a unique, customized Home City. The Home City represents a player's capital back in Europe and plays a supporting role in the attempt to control the New World. The better the player performs in the New World, the more powerful his Home City becomes. Players can customise their Home City to reflect unique personality traits, making the Home City a vital character in the game.
  • Explore a vibrant New World. Players can take advantage of elements of the colonial time period, including the ability to ally with Native Americans. They also can explore and find new resources in the Amazon rain forest, recover buried treasure from Caribbean islands, hunt bison on the Great Plains, compete to establish trade routes, and fortify the coast of New England.
  • Experience stunning graphics. Players will witness new lighting effects and shadows while immersed in a world that feels bright and sunny, yet which has a softness and depth that is revolutionary to PC games. Thanks to the new physics engine, players will never see the same scene twice.
  • Discover culturally diverse civilisations. Gamers can play as the British and have a stellar economy, or play as the French and easily ally with Native Americans. They can choose to play as the Spanish and have more support from their home country in Europe. Players have the option of playing as one of eight civilisations and, whichever one is chosen, players are guaranteed a unique and fulfilling experience.

 The Greatest AOE yet!

| | See all Yecumo's reviews (5)

Age of Empires III is without a doubt one of the best strategy titles on the PC. For fans of the original series, the game play is much the same with some new bits added here or there. The civilisations are varied and each has its own speciality units and buildings. The single player campaigns are varied and interesting and the skirmish mode is also superb.

The graphics are fantastic - smooth, detailed and intriguing. Whether you were a fan of the previous AOE games or even if you have never played AOE before, Age of Empires III is a must have game!

 RTS perfection

This is a excellent game, without a doubt one of the all time greatest RTS games on the PC. I am a hardcore fan of the AOE series, and after playing ever single AOE title I was expecting this to be awesome, and it was and it still is. One of the features I particularly enjoyed was when you pick a civilization you have a home city to supply you in the New World and that's everything from food to cannons to soldiers. Which is fantastic. There are plenty of different units to pick from, as well as mercenaries who have their own unique abilities. Overall this is well worth buying if you own a PC and it doesn't need to be high-spec either.

 No To Bad

This is a pretty decent game as the graphics r good the gameplay is sound but what its lacking is still the massive battles as the 200 limit population is a real pain and i was disappointed that they havent changed that for this version apart from that though cant really fault it.

possibly the best strategy game i have ever played and ive played alot! it is addictive but dont over play it to much because you will just find it boring and end up uninstalling it off your computer and then a week later reinstalling it!!

 Absolutely Brilliant!

Top 10 Sport and Outdoor Reviewer

I got this game, and went through the story mode (And that of the two expansion packs) with about 5 days solid playing. Its a brilliant story line which got me hooked and made me carry on playing so I could find out what would happen next.

After I completed the story, I played several skirmish matches over and over as this game was brilliant.

The graphics are good, and also the animation.

Although if you play as much as I did, you may get a little bit bored, you will still be addicted to this game!

Must buy!
