Very VERY good game but there's a catch...

Well I bought RE4 a year ago and never touched it again since playing it for the first time when I found out there was no mouse support and very bad keyboard controls. The game also has no proper quit option so you need to use task manager. It also somehow manages to look worse than the console versions of the game. HOWEVER (wondering why I gave it 4 stars?) if you have a good gamepad (I recommend the xbox 360 controller) and you download all the relevant mods/patches for the game then you can appreciate why the game was so loved on the console. I recently purchased the xbox 360 wired controller myself for the PC specifically for this game and it's paid off as I adore this game now as I'm finally getting to play it properly without becoming frustrated! Running around the forest blowing people's heads off with a shotgun? How fun! The gameplay and atmosphere of the game are great and so, if you're willing to shell out for a good gamepad and reasonable expectations of the game beforehand, you will find this to be a must have for your collection for such a small cost.

One Of The Best Games Of All Time, Can It Be Good On The PC?

My opinion of this version of the game, changed.
At first with all mods installed, I thought it was good. Until i realised, how awfully ported everything is. Seriously. Ever inch of this game seems copy + pasted onto a fresh template. Simply terrible.
Do not buy this if you have a Gamecube, Ps2 or Wii. Buy it for that, as they are all independent products.
This product puts the game to shame.
Do not think it can be ressurected through the patch, and modifications, because the truth is, it does simply not feel like resident evil.
Worst. Port. Ever.

  Excellent

First off, you need to download the patch and have a gamepad to play this game. Otherwise don't bother buying because it's unplayable in it's vanilla state and using keyboard controls. Graphically it's starting to show it's age and my other rant is that there really is no 'exit game' option. Other then these flaws which are easily overcome the game itself is nothing short of absolutely fantastic. The gameplay constantly evolves with new challanges, enemies and locations. Puzzles are well balanced (unlike those in previous RE games). The combat system is perfect, requiring skill but easy enough if your new to a game of this genre. The ability to upgrade and unlock new weapons means theres plently of replay value as well as the usual minigames and unlockable costumes. If you've never played this game it's worth checking out, if only as stop gap until Resi 5 is released!

  not bad,but...

its not a bad game, but if you havent got a joypad, you are stuffed. there are instances in the game where button instructions pop up on the screen (i.e when chased by a boulder). these instructions relate to which button on the joypad (they are numbered),not which button on the keyboard. the relevant buttons dont even match what button you would think it was. so its trial and error to get through. also, as one reviewer correctly pointed out, there is no quit function apart from task manager. i have looked, and there is no other way to quit.dont get this on pc.

This game does have a few catches too it , they did'nt really think it through well. As the previous reviews have stated the graphics arent all that good, (there not bad though, it just depends if your used to Crysis or not) , the controls are quite complicated ( using just the keyboard) although as you get into the game you get more and more used to it, eventually mastering it ( hopefully). And yes you do have to close it using task manager... but who cares!

Now the good stuff!!!

As with all zombie games its quite exciting to play and there are some excellent scenarios. However towards the end you end up fighting more humanised zombies rather than your average zombie, which kind of sucks.

The choice of weapons is quite good with a limited choice in upgrades but allows you to customize leon to what weapon you prefer. If you like zombie killing this is your game!!!

if not get Crysis:P

Resident Evil 4 is a great game, but i sugest you stick to it on the PS2. The PC Port is very average, the graphics arent as good as they should be and the controls are hard(unless using a gamepad).

And dont listen to what Brauschs says, i dont know how a Top100 Game Reviewer cant find the exit button on the game, its right in your face.

Overall 3/5.

I sometimes wonder if game companies actually want to sell games. Game design is top quality and compelling as all the series have been. The game was released with dreadful graphics which a patch improves substantially but makes no difference to the poor quality cut scenes. However the game's looks are secondary to how it plays. The controls are dreadful. Mouselook is not supported and those who've seen a patch for it on the net should beware, it only emulates joypad control and does not work with this version of the game. Keyboard control is poor which leaves only joypad. Controls are not user definable and there is such terrible lag on the analog sticks that precise aiming is virtually impossible. The final insult is the lack of a quit button, the game has to be shut down using Windows Task Manager

All those who didn't like this game did not install the patch.
Just do it and it will work great even on an old PC.
Over 20 hours of intense fun and action: 20/20

Do not buy this game for PC, I have a high powered PC this game crashed it so many times. Buggy is not the word I would use. A terrible lazy port, avoid it. appalling.
