Eleven years ago a horrific fire took Alice's family from her and left her mind horrifically scarred. Afterwards she was confined to Rutledge Asylum, where she struggled to confront her demons by slipping further into her fantasy world of Wonderland. Now, after ten years, she has finally secured her release-yet she still bears the heavy psychological burden of that tragic event.

With her mind in tatters, she is unable to resolve the fear prompted by her strange memories, dreams, and visions. Perhaps she'll do better in Wonderland. She always has. She travels there, seeking what the "real" world can't provide: security, knowledge, and the truth about the past. But in her absence, Wonderland too has suffered. Something has gone horribly wrong, and now a great evil is descending upon what once was her beautiful refuge. Can Alice save Wonderland-and herself-from the madness that consumes them both?

Visit Alice's dark and shattered wonderland

Alice: Madness Returns delves deep into the dark and violent side of the imagination, creating a nightmarish Wonderland where Alice must face the demons that haunt her visions. Visit the grim reality of Victorian London and then travel to the beautiful yet ghastly Wonderland to uncover the root of Alice's madness and discover the truth behind a deadly secret, kept hidden for years.

  • Intense 3rd Person Action: Use multiple upgradeable melee weapons, including the explosive Teapot Cannon, the punishing Hobby Horse, and the classic Vorpal Blade
  • Explore A Dark And Shattered Wonderland: Encounter familiar but now strange characters, including the Cheshire Cat, the Mad Hatter, the Caterpillar and the Red Queen

A Dark Twist To A Classic Story

| | See all SolarNova's reviews (18)

This game is a re-telling of the original Alice in Wonderland. However its a dark re-telling.
The 1st Alice PC game was simular but Alice was younger, this follows on from that game and is set many years later when she is around the age of 16 to 18. The game itself is a 3D platformer with hack and slash fighting, puzzle solving, and some 2d side scrolling elements. It is most deffinatly not for young kids as it is 'dark, contains blood, bad language, and the unfolding plot reviels a cultural taboo which is the core of the story.

The choice between console version and PC version is really just down to whether you want more graphics, or ease of play.
The PC version is by fare better in terms of graphics as not only does it have a high resolution and AA + AF, it also has PhysX and has been designed to run in 3D. The PhysX is a big part of the PC versions graphical appeal, which unfortunatly for this game means you need a monster computer to run it high enough to see it in all its glory. A i7 CPU and atleast 2x GTX 560 Ti GPU's is required to play this game at max settings with physX on high, thats without 3D. For 3D you will need more GPU power. That said though, even the PC version suffers from some low quality textures in places. (the price you pay for a consol port)

Unfortunatly if you want a game you can pick up and play then the PC version is not for you, as it comes with game breaking bugs that will requir you to edit the games .ini files for it to work properly. No offical fix has been released or looks to be in the immediate future so google is your friend. Although due to the games .ini files being so easily edited, it does mean you can get the extra Dresses and Weapons unlocked by simply changing 1 word, which is alot better than having to pay and download these dresses and weapons on both console and pc versions, personaly i feal it only right that PC version users get these 'extras' free after having to fix the game themselves.
I would give this game 5 stars but due to the PC version being released and sold with game breaking bugs that have not been fixed officaly i have to mark it down. No gamer should have to do the job of a company's programer to play a game he/she has paid for.
