Half-Life has been named Game of the Year by over 35 organizations worldwide. Half-Life 2: Aftermath is an all-new episode created by Valve that extends the Half-Life 2 single player adventure.
The player reprises his role of Dr. Gordon Freeman, who must immediately face the repercussions of his actions in City 17 and the Citadel. Freeman reconnects with Alyx Vance and her robot, Dog, as they continue their support of the resistance's battle against the Combine forces.
The intense, real-time gameplay delivered in Half-Life 2: Aftermath is made possible only by Source, Valve's proprietary engine technology which has been enhanced with new rendering technology and advanced artificial intelligence to deliver new levels of graphics and character interaction.
  • A new episode for one of the best-selling action games of all time.
  • Reveals new secrets.
  • Incredibly advanced Artificial Intelligence (AI).
  • Highly detailed environments provide amazing gameplay settings.
  • Digital Actors: The most sophisticated in-game characters ever witnessed.
  • Physical Gameplay: Objects obey the laws of gravity, friction and buoyancy.
  • Intense story line will appeal to those seeking more than another shooting gallery experience.

Engaging FPS - Beautifully made - Slighlty flawed
So, if you've played Half Life 2 to the end your all ready sold on this game due to the cliffhanger at the end of the Half Life 2 campaign.

This is a fantastic First Person Shooter experience, in the beautifully created Half Life Universe

This cliffhanger is answered in the first 30 seconds of play, but I won't spoil it.

The game is beautifully created and if your graphics hardware is good enough and your display. It beats hands down any graphics and physics on any Next gen console.

The first level, which involves stopping the citadel's reactor going critical and laying waste to city 17 is a magnificent graphical creation, the pulsating reactor astonishing.

Get in to the game proper and it is excellent. Each section of every part of the game is graphically Amazing.

So what of gameplay. Well, its fast and tough and you spend much of the game engaing the Zombie's and crawllers rather than the Combine, this would be OK but it suffers from the Doom 3 - stuck in a pitch black dark room with a torch (At leat here you can shoot at the same time) - and your torch battery frequently runs out.

If this game were more expensive, then this flaw would make it a 4 star game - But at £15, you can't really complain, especially when there is so much to like...

So the games plot.... Are you fighting for the right side - The Combine or the Resistance - Who is the man with the suitcase? Why do the Vortigons help you?

Like a soap opera some questions will be answered, whilst more questions raised.

Bring on Episode 2

FPS fan? A must play?

 Wicked game.

I would rate this game as one of the best, a must have in anybody's collection, you won't be dissapointed.

The game play is just hard enough to keep you coming back for more.
The graphics are excelent but you will need a decent card to appreciate it.

EPISODE 1 starts immediately where Half-Life 2 ended. Basically it's more of the same, and that's more than welcome to a fan like me. If you want to know what I thought of HL2 I refer the reader to that review. Suffice it to say I loved it and Episode 1, although not as memorable as its predecessor, is still enormous fun to play. The only criticism I have of this episode is that Valve haven't given the narrative development as much thought as they did in HL2 and will do again in HL2 Episode 2. Still great fun though.

A pretty good snack on the way to Episode Two

In the FPS genre, the Half-Life series is almost on a different level when compared to others. The combination of scripted scenes and excellent playability has been a trademark in the past. And it still is here.

Although not nearly as good as HL2, Episode One still offers the same fun gameplay as the previous parts. Friends of the series will be at home instantly. I personally didn't like some puzzle-like combat scenes, but the quality is always so high that they can easily be endured.

The same playability is there and the game looks beautiful as well. At least if you can put all the graphical sliders in the max position. If you own HL2, you have already bought this game anyway, but if you are new to the series, this is not the place to start either. I must have the whole trilogy so I bought this instantly.

The coolest part, in my opinion, is the extra you can use, namely the commentary track. It's actually helluva fun to play the game through once more, while listening what the designers have thought when making a particular monster or scene. All around, good times for everyone. FPS lovers should own this.

A good addition to the half life story if you want to keep up with all things half life then you can't go wrong in getting this. Great graphics the story continuation and some awesome scene's set you up for more enjoyable shooter action. It is a little short but there are more episode's on the way. Get it or miss it at your own peril.
