The Lord of the Rings Online: Shadows of Angmar will allow players to forge heroic legacies in the War for Middle-Earth. Gamers will experience an evolving persistent recreation of Tolkien's world-renowned fantasy realm where they can establish their unique reputations, and discover and wield legendary weapons in strategic battles, while adventuring solo or in Fellowships.

This game spans legendary Eriador, including the pastoral Shire, the Elven enclave of Rivendell, rustic Bree, and more. As the lands of Middle-Earth fall under a growing threat from the dark realm of Angmar, only the mightiest of deeds and the stoutest of hearts can halt the advance of Sauron's minions.

At least TRY to judge this game on its OWN merits!

Lord of the Rings Online is a quality game. I speak as someone that has played multiple MMO's over the years. Both from release and joining them when they have matured.

Yes, lotro has some issues with loging in at present but every other mmo ever released has been through teething troubles.

Lotro is similar to world of warcraft and if your after a faster pace mmo then thats probably where your money is better spent. However, if your burnt out on wow this is an excellent place to get your kicks. The graphics are excellent (better than wow in my humble opinion but its unfair to compaire this to a 2-3 year old game), the gameplay mechanics seem to be very well balanced and the crafting while being simple, also has depth.

There seems to be lots of moaning and groaning that this is a rip off of wow. Its not, no-one calls every rts that is released a clone of command and conquer yet the gameplay is very similar in that particular genre. Lotro plays similar to wow buti n all the right ways, it hasnt re-invented the wheel. Its taken what is good about wow and improved on the not so good.

As the title of this review says, judge lotro on its own merits. If you like the idea of "wow in middle earth" give it a go, you wont be disappointed.

WOW hasn't got a patch on this game

This is the WOW slayer for sure. If it doesn't do it outright [and with at least two years worth of free content and a cheaper subscription, it's hard to see it not doing so] then it will surely start the fall of the leviathan WOW.

It's supremely beautiful, perfectly balanced and huge, with less than a fifth of Middle-Earth opened up at release.

Most of all, IT IS BUG-FREE. This is going to give other MMORPG devs a run for their money, as Turbine will now be able to focus 100% on the content of the game.

It works absolutely fine on Windows Vista and requires only a moderately good rig to get the best out of graphically and aurally.

Watch out WOW - now is the hour when you fall.

             Its Alright =]

Top 100  Reviewer Top 100 Games Reviewer

First off, you always get fanboys with every MMO, and as I've already read, we have fanboys from other MMO's posting bad reviews here, so for the record, I'm writing this review fairly and as a non-fanboy.
Well first off the character creation, the developers havent steered of tolkien lore and kept it to the core as much as they can. For example, there wasnt very many wizards in this period of time, so they thought it would be a bit wrong to have millions of wizards running around middle earth, hence the loremaster came through.
There as always are faces to choose from, facial hair, body types etc the usual, not as much customisation as games like Oblivion but enough to keep you happy.
The game starts you off in a instanced zone, basically a short tutorial and introduction into the game. So this makes it a good game for first time MMO players.
Of course if you love LOTR, you'll want to get your hands on this game and you wont be dissapointed.
The PVP / monster play is hella fun. Great idea integrated into the game so you CAN in theory play as the bad guys.
The graphics are quite good, very lush green environments and your snowy mountains for the dwarves etc. The environment definatly does stand out alot for this game, and gives it the edge. If you actually take time to stand and look around in certain area's of the game it is quite impressive. The combat is easy to get a grip of, and not much new implemented into it, but still enjoyable.
The crafting doesnt hit off as much as I would have liked it to. Also for a small dissapointment you only use mounts for fast travel. You dont actually own your own mount. Although the developers have added that in a future expansion they will add mounts in (Probably a Rohan expansion). Plus there isnt housing in the game, but again they have added that this will come in a future expansion which would be a nice addition.

So for first time players of MMO's or LOTR fans, or someone who's just looking for a new MMO to play through, I suggest this game is for you =]

             Good but not great.

I've played World of Warcraft since it was released so I was keen to get my hands on LOTR. Not surprisingly, there are many similarities with WOW but this is not necessarily a bad thing. The quests DO take longer to read but that's because the game designers want to make it more of an immersive experience. The graphics are superb. Ok, it's not perfect but it is still enjoyable and addictive. It didn't grab me in the same way that WOW first did, but that was my first experience of an MMORPG so it was all 'fresh' back then. So yes, you could say that we've seen it all before but I still think it's worth a try. I bought the Founders Lifetime subscription (£99) and I haven't regretted it. They are about to release an expansion to the existing game world (for free) and more expansions are planned. If you're tired of WOW and you fancy something slightly different then this might be the game for you.

             Really poor

            | | See all Technocat's reviews (2)

Don't waste your money, this game is abslute rubbish. It feels like a poor mans Guild Wars never mind anything close to WOW. The controls are awful, the graphics are of course better than wow but thats the only thing you can say really. Very very disappointed I wasted £25 on this game, and thats what it is, a waste because you can't sell it on or return it, something that will never be played again and sit gathering dust confined to history in my cupboard. This game hasn't left beta, it's clumsy, the fighting is poor and the interaction and control is awful.

People saying this is better than WOW, I dont' think you have played wow, it doesn't even compare. AVOID.

Why are people giving this a not helpful feedback? I am giving my honest opinion, I am not a wow fanboy, I am bored to death with wow hence why I bought this game, sadly the game certainly didn't live up to expectation and so am stuck with wow still. I want a new mmo like everyone else, but one of quality not something that is of this standard. Please if you have bought the game then stop giving me bad feedback on my review just because you like the game. You cant have bought the game since last night when I posted my review so my review isnt valid to you.
