Despite the fact that Ubisoft declared this game the true sequel of Far Cry it bears almost no resemblence to it in any way. The good graphics are about the only thing they share.
The game itself is fairly repetative but mostly because of the stupidly short respawn time for enemies...the malaria mechanic is also irritating. The element of exploration is also not great as the map is mostly impassable hills which prevent direct travel and funnel you into constant repetative fights. The fighting itself is also poor, the guns look bad and break quickly. The inability to go prone is strange to say the least.
Grapics are good. Gameplay is poor. If you want to explore buy Fallout 3. If you want to shoot stuff buy Crysics or COD. If youve never played Far Cry...buy that.
If you enjoy grand theft auto then you should like this game, it's pretty much that game in Africa. You go around doing missions for factions in order to complete your main objective 'The Jackal'.
The graphics are fantastic and really give the game a realistic feel while playing, the gun sights work well and makes the game a great shooter.
Now to the downsides, sadly this game has nothing to do with the original game FarCry , for some reason they have called it this when there is no connection. This doesn't make it a bad game unless you plan to buy this in hopes you'll get to kill mutant beast like before.
The other fall back for this game is that it is so repetitive! It starts to get a bit boring doing same things over and over. Not a game you can sit down to a play for a long time unless you have the patience of a saint.
Far cry 2 mmmm. This is a little bit of a let down but not enough to warrant giving it lowest marks at all. Yes the gameplay is repetative at times and after all the missions you go through a disappointing end. Those are a couple of minus points but on the plus side there is great destruction some imense shoot outs the graphics are of the planet if you have a top spec pc, sound is impressive and the multiplayer isn't to bad. I thought the original far cry had a better plot and character in it, where as this falls short, still try before you buy you maybe into it.
Great game. Might be repetative on the harder levels, but so far has more depth than previous version. its not just a shooter, wepons management and driving add depth, but the controls are simple and so far it's no tried to confuse me.
Its strange to me that this is £10 and yet the solo game without the expansion is £18? I was worried that I was misunderstanding what I was buying but this is indeed Far Cry 2 + the expansion pack. Pretty awesome game I must say. If you're expecting a thrill ride at 100mph then dont buy though. The game is set in a vast open area and a lot of time is spent travelling and checking your map to make sure youre not about to stumble into an enemy encampment. One criticism I have is that everyone seems intent on killing you. There is a distinct lack of unarmed civilians. The country is supposed to be in civil war but where are the women or old people?? Inevitably you just shoot first and ask questions later which is shame in a day and age where morality is a centerpiece for many games - theres no choice whether to kill or not - every person you meet is trying to kill you!
However, do not let this put you off. I still give this game 5 stars. The graphics are unbeleivable. The art direction is very original. The explosions and fires are pretty breathtaking. The story isnt a masterpiece (so far) but it contains enough elements to hold it together.
Basically, if youre looking for a good looking shooting game with elements of exploration then you should definetly buy this. If you're not, you should buy it anyway because at £10 its a bargain!
