Welcome the next evolution in game control for the PlayStation 4, with the DualShock 4.

The DualShock 4 features an integrated touch screen and a unique Share button, which enables you to capture and share your gameplay with friends, family and other gamers. This clever little button also allows you to record and upload in real-time using the PS4's streaming services.

The new DualShock 4 controller incorporates a new six-axis sensor, as well as a light bar with coloured LEDs that illuminate to match what is going on on screen. The light bar can also give you critical game information such as damage, XP and more.

For the gamer that loves it loud, the controller also comes with a headset jack, allowing you to communicate, listen and chat to other gamers.

 Poor button location and design

Ergonomically the controller feels nice but the loss of the Start and Select buttons is a huge negative. These have been replaced by two buttons 'Share' and 'Options' - the idea of these is fine but the placement is not. They are both the same shape and sit flush ie they do not sit proud of the controller making them hard to find by touch and without actually looking down at the controller. This becomes even harder in a dark room. The tendency is to fumble around and press the new touch pad a number of times before actually locating the buttons. I don't think Sony have though this through very well.

Also, there is a light bar now. The novelty lasts a day or two but then you just want to switch it off as it serves no purpose (unless you are using the camera which will be very rare.) Sony don't seem to allow you to turn this off which is not only a painful distraction but also drains the battery leading to more charging.

 great improvements

I didn't buy the controller from here but i can't let there only be 1 feedback on it being 2 stars, the controller sit so much nicer in your hands, the quality of it is far superior than the ps3, although i do agree the buttons could be higher as they are recessed too much but as a overall its just as much of an improvement as the console

 Another brilliant pad!

Sony have always made high quality peripherals and this is no exception. The new thumb sticks have ergonomic indents so your thumbs no longer slip off as easily, the triggers and face buttons all have a wider range if sensitivity and the pad feels well made and sturdy in your hands.
The 'permanently on' light for the camera drains virtually no battery and the pad overall recharges quicker than the previous dual shocks and last about as long. The inclusion of the touch pad adds further immersion and additional game interaction. There is even a small speaker in the pad which provides in game feedback separate from the main sound for more innovation.
The new 'share' and 'option' buttons are small and could be better utilized but the only complaint about these will be from people who aren't used to their position and/or function as with any change to pad design we are so used to.
Overall a brilliant piece of kit. Just a little pricey for a pad but still the best pads on the market. You get what you pay for

 Surpasses the Dual Shock 3!

Ive always loved the PS3 controller believing it was near perfect. Until I saw and held this PS4 controller. Its slightly bigger and has a much more balanced weight to it. It feels rock solid, expensive (which i suppose it is!) and well laid out. The thumb sticks are mounted on shorter stalks allowing for easier/ quicker movement making it more comfortable. Triggers now have grip detail and enough curve to make them work perfectly. Theres a light bar (which i personally really like) showing charge levels and during some games it changes colour depending on your health etc (something for developers to play with) and the large central 'pad' acts as button usually for pausing or accessing stat screens. Ive read that this will actually be a like a touch mouse pad for certain future games making navigation so quick and easy! Built in 'tweeter' speaker which could be really cool for say ......horror games. Its made me jump a bit the few times its suddenly joined in with the audio! Yes the options/share button are fairly flush on the controller but this is a good design feature. The idea is you're not accidentally hitting these buttons during gameplay!! Brilliant controller. Use this for a month - then pick up your old PS3 controller - guaranteed you'll have a wee chuckle at the difference.

 Much improved

This controller is fantastic to me! Feels great in the hand and with a added bit of weight it feels good! After playing with this for hours then stepping back to dualshock 3 u realise how cheap the DS3 feels! I like the feel the quality and have had no issues with the options and share buttons! I must admit it does take a few days to get used to! Only downside is the battery compared to the DS 3 is rubbish I mush admit it will last I would say 5 hours! Overall tho GRRRRRREAT
