Metal Gear Solid: Portable Ops redefines the stealth action genre for handheld gaming systems with an original storyline that follows from the events of Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater and boasts ground-breaking online play that lets gamers recruit comrades to form a unique fighting force.

The single-player campaign of Metal Gear Solid: Portable Ops follows the events of Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater, as Big Boss establishes FOXHOUND in an attempt to hunt down the treacherous FOX unit, which has started a bloody revolt in South America. Set in 1970, the game will be the missing link in the ongoing Metal Gear saga, as players will learn more about returning characters such as Para-Medic, Major Zero and Sigint and also witness Big Boss's greatest tragedy - a loss that sets into motion the events of later games in the Metal Gear Solid timeline.
  • Refining the gameplay of the online multiplayer mode from Metal Gear Solid 3: Subsistence, Metal Gear Solid: Portable Ops lets players engage in online skirmishes through the PSP system's wireless infrastructure functionality.
  • Players will be able to use their squadron from the single-player portion of the game as well as recruiting new members and trading with other players, unleashing their distinctive abilities and wreaking havoc across the game's numerous multiplayer levels.
  • Metal Gear Solid: Portable Ops also introduces a new "White Flag" system to the game's multiplayer modes, letting players choose to surrender and live to fight again in each round or fight to the death until the next game begins. Placing emphasis on stealth gameplay, the White Flag System further evolves online play for the Metal Gear series and creates a bond between the player and their team as they work together to achieve their objectives.

Wow what a fantastic game I'm amazed. Probably the best game on the PSP this is the only reason I hadn't sold my PSP I just couldn't wait for it to come out. Yes the delay thanks to the cover designers leaving out the age was annoying but it was worth the wait. It was finally a Metal Gear game on the PSP that doesn't involve those cursed cards. This is a proper sequel to MGS Snake Eater with lots of plot tie ins to the other games I wont spoil it for you by telling you. The recruiting soldiers is great as well you'll find yourself keep looking for that last doctor who will boost your med unit or that last tech so you can get that stealth camouflage or even trying to kidnap the bosses. Great game will keep you playing for ages.

Best PSP game yet by far

This is a bit more like it. A huge, engrossing Metal Gear game that does away with the card based nonsense of the AC!D games and gets back to basics, and then some!

It plays like MGS3, with a lot of added bits that really make the game a LOT more deep than the aforementioned prequel. In this installment, you control Big Boss once again, and instead of going solo, this time you actually recruit team members by capturing enemy soldiers and staff and 'turning' them to your cause of stopping World War 3 and then putting together a team made up of your recruits, with each enemy being unique in their own way, bringing indvidual skills and abilities to the gameplay(eg. recruit a soldier from a certain area and you can then use him to recon that area without the enemies attacking). It works reall really way the way it's implemented here, not ever letting things get too complex.

The only real complaint I could level at this game is the camera controls. The PSP has always had a hard time with 3D cameras, and this game is no exception, but it's nothing you can't get used to after a while.

A real classic that every PSP owner should play.

Great Game with fantastic online features

This is proper MGS action on the PSP. None of that strategy based nonsense seen in Metal Gear Acid. It is mainly action with the new feature being the ability to recruit people to your team. This can range from guards (who have their own unique abilities) to being the great man snake himself. Graphics are astonishing for handheld game truly push the system to the limit. Gameplay is your usual MGS but is split into smaller missions so that they can be easily completed in quick journey on the train. Possibly my only gripe is with the control system although this is more due to poor controls of the PSP instead of being a fault of the game. The game really takes off in online multiplayer where you can compete with people all over Europe in deathmatches which are really fun to play. Overall a success only limited by the controls.

Recommended to all u peeps who love online and shoot em ups!

Brilliant follow up to the other mgs games and it's on a portable! I have bought Every MGS game to date including the MGS acid games. (Btw i hated the mgs acid's) If you are a mgs fan you will love this game! I had bad feeling about the recruitment side of things but it is great fun! Buy this game with confidence!
