Players assume a pivotal role in determining the outcome of the largest battle in Norse Mythology. On the eve of Ragnarok, a battle between the warring factions of Aesir and Vanir, Lenneth is dispatched to the land of mortals in pursuit of worthy allies. Her mission is a crucial one that could possibly sway the tides of war in her faction's favor.

Approaching brave souls at the time of their death, Lenneth must convince these combatants to join her in the ultimate battle against evil. With time working against her, Lenneth must seek out, train and command an army of fallen soldiers in preparation for the final battle against Surt, the leader of the Vanir, while the mystery of Lenneth's identity unfolds.

Special enhancements take advantage of the PSP system's capabilities - true 16:9 support and new CG sequences give players a deeper understanding of the plot and complement the game's dramatic storyline.
  • Classic RPG in the palm of the hand - experience the adventure in the living room, on the road or outdoors
  • A heart-wrenching tale of honour, courage and purpose in the afterlife - follow the fallen heroes as they pursue honor in the next life
  • Time-based story progression breeds a non-linear experience where actions determine the outcome of Ragnarok - recruit well and Valhalla is saved, recruit poorly and destruction looms
  • Encounter 24 unique characters with deep levels of customization
  • Multiple endings that are revealed based on crucial world-altering decisions

Cant say too much about the game just yet only been playing for 4 hours, but as my first time being able to play the game i must say im VERY impressed so far.

You basically play as Valkrie, a Goddess who takes slain humans and recruits them as warriors for the on going battle with the gods in another world to prevent the world from being destroyed. The difference here however is you have an alotted time to complete the game before the final battle *in other words, 8 Chapters that consist of roughly 180 episodes*, the first chapter consists of 24 episodes which means you have to basically train up your previously fallen warriors within the episode limit before the very last episode within the chapter. After successfully entering various dungeons and leving up them, you must then send them to the other world to help the on going war. At the end of each chapter you are reported on how well that war is going on so far, obviously from time to time it'll only be a success if you recruit, train and send the warriors over their when they pass a certain level in their stats. Send them when they're too weak however, and they can die and possibly lead you to a bad ending in the game with Valkryie failing to complete her mission.

The game already has excellent Music and battles (which are turn based but require active use of pressing each of the 4 playstation buttons which are asigned to each character which really makes battle fresh, exciting and combo laden:) )

The stories you see with each character that eventually dies and join you are really quite dramatic was really surprised how much thought went into them, i can honestly say how these people died really helps you understand the characters feelings and really encourages you to train them up really well before the last battle with Ragnorak (last chapter in the game supposedly)

anyways, so far if you love RPG's and love a game with great character development, great battle music with excellent combat, you really cant go wrong with this game.

If you also want to play another great JRPG on the PSP, try the criminally underrated Tales of Eternia (known as Tales of Destiny II in America) which going for real cheap here on Play.com or other retailers.

Not an expert reviewer but i hope a managed to shed some light on this very promising game :)

 A must for RPG fans.

I remember having played this game on my Playstation (one) and being a big fan of RPG games I loved it. I believe it might have been the first RPG game for the playstation with voice-overs. It may get boring sometimes, especially for gamers who don't like cutscenes or lots of speech bubbles popping here and there, but then again, I'd sit through and read/listen to any good story, and trust me, this game's story is great. So buy this game only if you're an RPG fan, otherwise rent/borrow it first; Who knows, you might love it too!

 Engrossing Game

This is an excellent game, it is a turn based RPG but with a twist in that you have combo's and can directly control attacks much more so than in a normal turn based game.

2d dungeons and cities allow some exploration and some dungeons require dexterity (yours not your characters) to complete, but I got there so you can!
RPG system is also a bit different, but I like different, and once you have worked it out it is very easy to work.

This game does have lengthy cut scenes, and starting a new game can take over an hour before you are properly on your way. I was aware of this before I bought it but didn't find it too much of a problem.

Overall an excellent game, turn based RPG with a twist and it does keep you engrossed!

Very good, memorable JRPG in the vain of Star Ocean.

An original story told in an original way. The plot unfolds in a similar manner to a book, over the course of 8 chapters. Each chapter has 24 "pages" and visiting different locations take different numbers of "pages". The battle system combines the mad key hammering of a beat-em-up and the tactics of other JRPG's like Final Fantasy. Exploration is in a manner of an old 2D platformer, though limiting, I like it as it makes it much easier to control.
With over 20 different characters and hundreds of skills and items the replay ability is reasonable, this is only limited by the rather linear plot. Saying that, the different modes have different amounts of content from easy (or should that be not so easy) to hard which has more dungeons and characters. I give it 4/5

A classic returns, but not so good on handheld sadly

Valkyrie Profile Lenneth is a re-release of the classic PS1 title about a Valkyrie servant of Odin and the Norse Gods of myth, who must recruit dead warriors to fight in the coming battle of Ragnarok.

It basically plays like Castlevania, but instead of real time fights, the battles are turn based JRPG affairs with a really simple and easy to use interface and a lot of depth to get to grips with as the game progesses.

The story scenes are perhaps a bit too long for a handheld game though, and they can't be skipped, so perhaps the PSP isn't the best place for this game...

If you don;t mind that though, you're in for a real treat here, as this game is really fantastic. It's very hard though... you have been warned.
