Fans of D&D may love this but others, beware.

I bought this game expecting something along the lines of Baldur's Gate 2 on the PSP. What I got instead was a game that was far too concerned with being faithful to the source material (yet still omitted numerous features such as multi-classing and any character interaction), and completely forgot about the gameplay.

You will find that the majority of your time will be spent handling character arbitration and levelling up, equipping them with items, preparing spells, buying and selling items and of course, the tactical battles, which is what the game is all about.

I would think that the biggest flaw of the game is the complete lack of role-playing and a decent storyline. You need not worry about making your characters impossibly stupid or uncharismatic, as there is no character interaction whatsoever. The only thing you can choose to do is to either make your party more benevolent or more evil by choosing what mission to do (that is, which side you're going to eliminate).

However, if nigh endless and mundane tactical turn-based combat based on Dungeons and Dragons 3rd edition is what you're looking for in a game, then this is a good choice. Otherwise, you're unlikely to find this very entertaining.

True to the rules but ponderous to play

Don't misunderstand, I have played this game inside out to learn all the nooks and crannies and love it to bits but a few niggly things simply ruin the playability.

The story is too linear with little variation whether you play as good or evil and the game has a level limiter which is a real shame. The real killer is in adventure movement, which to say takes an age would not do the phrase justice.

Like I said though if you want a true version of a D&D core rules game this is almost as good as they get, just be prepared to get very bored during the longer quests.

Near Faithful Reproduction of Pen and Paper Game

A very entertaining game, which is very faithful to the source material. The graphics and sound are top-notch for the PsP, and there is enough depth and replayability to last you a long while.

Some gripes - no multiclassing (so no min-maxed rogue-ranger-fighter). The zoom function does not zoom out enough, so the viewable area can feel claustraphobic at times. And the lack of information in the manual can make the game almost impenetrable for those not familiar with the 3.5 rule-set (I had my Player's handbook out for the first few hours...)

Overall, a must have for DnD fans. For others, a good purchase, but some patience will be required.

I brought this and i loved it

i brought this when i got my PSP Lite, although i have only played 3 games on my psp i am glad i added this to my collection, i have only played it for around 8 hours but i did like everything about it, i used to play DnD and i love the rules, its not like neverwinter night so do not confuse this with anything like that.

its a slow turn based movement combat game, the rules are based on the Hardcore rules of Dnd, and when you start you have lvl 1 charecters that cannot hit a barn door with a sledge hammer (so bear this in mind when playing it) but to be honest that was just like the paper based game when you first started. the graphics are very good in my opinion, the lighting affects are top notch and the sound and music is prety good and not annoying.

i read some online reviews giving it a prety poor grade but i put this down to the reviewer not knowing the dnd rules and basically not being entertained within the first 10 mins.

charecter generation is just like creating a charecter in the paper based game, it can be long winded but it does give you the option to let the computer autoselect a lot of the atributes, i did not bother because i have played DnD and i knew what i wanted.

on the box it says 40+ hours but i am hoping for more :-)

i am guesing i will be playing over and over again, i recon this game will be good for long journey's or buss rides ect, its just a shame i drive really :-)

i will be taking this one with me on holliday.
