'Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter 2' on the PSP is a conversion of the highly successful "squad shooter" game of the same name that is already available on the Xbox 360. This handheld version has a couple of differences though.
First of all the squad elements of the game have been removed, so unless you are playing this on co-op campaign or your mission is to escort someone, your soldier is in the action on his own. In my opinion this is can be better as sometimes on the 360 version having to command your squad as well as face the enemy yourself can get a little fiddly and although sometimes it can mean that they free up an area ahead from enemies by your command, it can also be a real pain having to run back to heal them when you are trying to fight off a couple of terrorists at the same time.
Next, the levels are different to it's bigger brother, so if you have played the other version before, this will feel like a new game to you.
The graphics on GRAW2 are absolutely brilliant for a handheld game, with sharp images throughout make seeing enemies in the distance no problem at all. The hazy effects adds to the atmosphere, giving you the feeling that youe are in the humid jungle and streets in the game. Character animation is also very realistic, although sometimes enemy AI can be a little buggy (they hear a shot an will flick to be in lying down position).
The controls are where this game has impressed me the most, making great use of the PSP having only 1 stick. Like in Gun Showdown for the PSP, the stick is used to move your solider around whilst the 4 buttons on the right (X, triangle, square and circle) are used to look around. This makes aiming much more precise than using the 360's right stick and once you've been playing for a few minutes, you won't have any problems at all with this unique control method. The direction buttons are used to reload, change weapon, crouch/standup/lie down and use the probe and navel cannons as well as pick up weapons and open the ammo box, whilst the shoulder buttons aim/change view and fire your weapon.
Overall this is by far one of the best shooters I've played on the PSP so far and is a great addition to the Tom Clancy series along with Splinter Cell and Rainbow Six. The difficulty is pretty hard even on the easy setting but if you have played any of the other Tom Clancy games you should be used to this. I recommend this to anyone who likes games like Splinter Cell, Metal Gear Solid, Rainbow Six or Syphon Filter and if you have played GRAW2 on any other format I'd definitely still give this one a go.
