For years the Patapon tribe has lived in the desolate frontier, driven from their home by the evil Zigoton army. Behind the Patapons' cute exterior, lies a fierce warrior spirit that can only be commanded by the beat of their God's war drum. They wait for the day that the "Almighty" will return, to lead them against their enemies and bring them back to their homeland. Finally, their wait has come to an end as the drums of war are heard once again.

Rhythm and Action Collide: Master up to six different drumbeats to command the Patapon troops to march, attack, defend, power-up, retreat, and use magic. Combine the various chains of drumbeats to address each unique level, leading the Patapons to victory over the Zigoton enemy forces.

Strategic Gaming: Patapon delivers a strong element of strategy by requiring players to properly customise and build up the Patapon army, arm each soldier with particular weapons and armor, and position them correctly for battle.

Mission Variety: Take part in more than 30 specific missions including hunting, escort, and boss battles, and explore numerous vivid environments along the way. Players will discover and access more than 100 items and weapons throughout the adventure.

Unique Art Style: French graphic artist Rolito, noted for his abstract art style seen in collectible toys, animation, and websites, lends his skills to create a variety of unique characters and environments, bringing the Patapon world to life.

Minigames: Five music-based minigames allow players to earn bonuses and upgrades to further customise the Patapon warriors.

Music: Captivating and dramatic original music builds dynamically as players march and encounter enemy battles throughout each level.

Just when you think that it's impossible to come up with something original, along comes PATAPON. Very simple game with a clever approach to playing it.
For starters, it's an arcade combat game where you give commands to the little guys, but this is where it's different.
To give those commands you need to constantly tap out various drum beats, so during a level you would tap a drum beat for them to advance, then another beat to attack, there are other drum beats to learn but you will figure out along the way. Also the little guys can be customised with new weapons and armour. This game is one of those rare treats and is worth adding to your collection.

If you have played LocoRoco, then get this. The graphics are beautiful and simple. The aim of the game is controlling an army of patapons with a drum beat. You hunt to get more meat and doing the levels will reward you with a new type of unit and materials to create patapons. Levels can be quite difficult in the game, but you dont realise how long you are spending because you will be "pata" "pata" "pata" "Pon"ing away with them. However one mistake will cause half of your army to fall over and get angry with you. In a very cute and delightful way.

It is obvious that a game about little eyeballs with legs brandishing spears and arrows will not be to everyone's taste, but it has to be said that this is a brilliant game.

The design is simplistic but the game is challenging. The first few levels are easily completed, but the game gets more difficult as it continues.

It is sometimes very hard to keep the drum rhythms in time with the Patapon's chanting, and I suspect that this is why this game has also received some one-star reviews.

This game is an RTS with plenty of humor as well as interesting and challenging gameplay. The good thing about 'Patapon' is that it is totally unique. You won't find something quite like this anywhere else.

The only downside of the game is that the incessant chanting and rhythms really stick in your head after a while. I played for twenty minutes the first night that I bought it, and three hours later I was still humming 'Pata Pata Pata Pon' to myself!

However, if you think that this game sounds mad, it is! But it is seriously worth a go. Why not try it for yourself and find out?

if you dont have rhythm forget it (like me), forget it. Firts game I have put in the bin. it was fun untill the dessert crossing level. about 5 (quick) levels in, 4 mis just to start every time and if you dont get about 35, 4 beat strings in a row you dead (to make it rain twice and move/kill). Can think how hard the next level must be, for me :-)

This is much more than a rythym...rtyhm...rhthym...music and beats game. It requires effort and brain work to succeed, choosing the right tactics, knowing which troops and troop formations to use against which targets and bosses, etc.

Gorgeous to look at (games as art...?) and highly addictive, you'll find yourself tapping your feet along with the soundtrack and singing the songs long after you've switched your PSP off.

Simply brilliant; no, you don't get to add change, or write numbers, or rejumble "dgo" into "dog" but you do get to play a highly enjoyable and uplifting GAME on your portable GAMES system. ;o)
