Review

The Netherworld - a place darker than a pitch-black cave, located deeper than the depth of the seas. It is a cursed land where evil reigns and fould beings dwell. Nobody knows its whereabouts, but everybody fears its existence...

The story takes place two years after the death of King Krichevskoy, the ruler of the Netherworld. His son Laharl slept for two full years, unaware of this father's death, while demons fought for supremacy over the Netherworld. With the help of his subordinate Etna and her underlings, the egocentric, megalomaniac Prince Laharl fights his way to become the next king.

Bloody Awesome Don't Deny It

This is without a shadow of a doubt the only good game on the PSP (aka paper weight) other than the miraculous godsend that was mgs portable ops. It is filled with the same level of hilarity as if you stuck Bill Baily in a room with three wig wearing monkeys. The story is in depth and interesting right up to the end and if you do buy it at the very least play it up to the prinny story because frankly it rocks.
One of the many additions is the alternate story line in which at the very start the main character dies. It holds within a ditzy angel, violent devil, courageous superhero and a penguin. I'm not here to tell you how to spend you're money but I'm going to anyway, buy it or I will be forced to stick two forks in my eyes, rip out my corneas and play table tennis with them.

If you're an RPG fan, then this title is for you. I demand you buy it!

Upon entering the world of Disgaea you will find yourself drawn in by the humour, fantastic characters and brilliant Gameplay. As with the authors of the other reviews before mine, I am an owner of both Disgaea 1 and 2 on the PS2 but if you haven't played the PS2 versions you should still invest in a copy of this game. The fact it is now portable makes it even better! I can play at work, when I commute and even at boring family gatherings.

Upon completion this game has a feature that allows you to play through with your same characters, levels and items (So you don't have to start all over again).

Quite possibly my favourite PSP title to date. This is a game for people who don't have time to spend many hours in their sitting room/bedroom, but still want the submersive storyline and great gameplay that will make you laugh. 5/5

Disagea: Afternoon of Darkness is almost a direct port of the PS2 game Disgaea: Hour of Darkness. On the PS2 there has also been a sequel, Disgaea 2.
If you haven't played either of these games I strongly urge you to give this game a shot, it is quite probably the best game on the PSP at the moment.

If you've played the other versions keep on reading and I'll explain why this perhaps isn't a necessary purchase. First I've listed the few GOOD additions in the PSP version of Disgaea: -
- Additional ETNA mode - not as long as the original story
- A couple of extra bosses
- Attack animations turn off (this is the biggest plus)
- New way to get some of the better items...
- Its portable!
However, if you spent over 100 hours on the original game there are a few things you should know.
Some things I've noticed while playing this version: -
- Crashing while trying to access the shop (TWICE)
- Crashing while trying to access the hospital (ONCE)
- Crashing while trying to raise weapon mastery by countering with own players (EVERY TIME with high enough counters)
- Some of the items (a particular pair of glasses and staff that I've noticed so far) have bugged specialists on them. I'm talking well into the 10k level unsubdued. This is a bit of a cheat considering the amount of time purists have wasted farming on the PS2 version!

Finally if you've conquered the PS2 sequel then, like me, you'll notice that every aspect of this game, as you would expect compared to a sequel, is inferior. The difference is so vast that item runs in the this Disgaea seem a little dull in comparison. Considering this is where you'll spend most of your Disgaea life this is a major downer.
Saying that, I've already hit 4 figure levelled characters and am still playing.... but why?
Maybe its because my PS2 has broken.. maybe because its generally so easy to pick up and play any PSP game... Maybe its because of the shortcuts now available with the bugged items will make you turn to item running quicker... Or maybe.. just maybe its because, depsite its flaws, this is still by far the most rewarding and addictive game available on the PSP......... Dood........
