Final Fantasy is the ultimate revival of a game that created a phenomenon. Remastered exclusively for the PSP system, this all-new edition features updated character art, updated graphics, new dungeons, full 16:9 widescreen presentation and an updated camera view that gives players a new vantage point on such a timeless classic RPG.

Final Fantasy begins when four young warriors, each possessing a Crystal, are summoned to bring the world back to a harmonious elemental balance. During their voyage, they discover a nefarious entity has created turmoil in the structure of time in order to take control of the world, causing the heroes to travel to places they never imagined possible.

Final Fantasy was THE RPG title of its time, it introduced the phenomenon to the mass market and set a benchmark for future RPGs to go by. The game has been remade with beautiful 2D graphics and a musical score which will have you humming along wherever you are. The original game had many flaws and this remake has done little to compensate for them, it is still very slow paced and it does get repetitive quite easily but its an RPG afterall. My main problem with the game is the lack of direction you seem to have, with NPCs hidden away in corners who give the most vague details of where to go next and which monster to kill so its a very time consuming game. The controls have mapped almost perfectly, although to access the map function quickly requires you to remove your hand from the D Pad in oder to activate the screen. Overall I rate this game a 3/5, for a solid RPG experience which fills a few hours.

I am a huge fan of the Final Fantasy series after being hooked from FFVII. One of the main reasons behind my love for the games are the incredibly engrossing storylines and likeable characters.

This is where the original FF really let me down. There is no background to the characters, there is no compelling back story, it is sadly to say showing its age.

Don't get me wrong, if you are wanting the game for nostalgia's sake it's worth a try but if you are looking for an rpg with a bit more story and detail in the characters for the PSP then go for the hidden gem that is PoPoLoCrois.
