echochrome takes you into a topsy-turvy world of 3D mid-air mazes, where your aim is to guide a wandering mannequin along a series of pathways. Sudden drops and dead ends may appear to make this a difficult task, but in echochrome solving a problem is just a matter of perspective...

By rapidly tilting and turning each maze it's possible to see obstacles from thousands of different angles - and even remove them from view altogether. If a yawning chasm blocks your path, spin the maze so that it's hidden from sight behind a wall and the mannequin will walk across without falling. If two pathways don't connect, alter your viewpoint until they appear to join - and they will. In echochrome, seeing is believing... and out of sight is out of mind.

Sound simple? It is - in theory. But with 228 levels of increasing difficulty and three distinct game modes, plus the opportunity to create your own levels and share them with friends via Ad Hoc Mode, echochrome is marvellously maddeningly hard to conquer. It's all a matter of imagination, mental agility and good old-fashioned brain-frying fun!

  • Feed your brain and exercise your imagination as you tackle mind-bending optical puzzles
  • Find your way through 228 topsy-turvy 3D mazes
  • Create your own levels to confound friends with Ad-Hoc Mode

 Fantasically original mind bending game

Echochrome is one of the most original games for many years; the basis of how it works are simple yet this game is really difficult at times; it reminds me of the orginal Lemmings. Anyone can learn how to play this but it will eb difficult to master.

Graphically this game offers all it can; had they added any more colours and the optical illusions simple wouldn't have worked.

There are a great many hours of fun to be had with this and with the user generated content available you'll always have new levels to play.

Not only is this a great game but it's brilliantly priced too. It get too difficult too quickly for some younger gamers but don't let that put you off.

 Truly original puzzle title

Echochrome is one of those clever well thought out games that will sadly be overlooked by many people. The concept of the game is that perception is reality which means whatever view of the world you currently see is the way it is. You have to get a little character to walk around the various puzzles to certain points. which consist of various unconnected beams. Your only controls are moving the camera and to stop/speed up your character, by rotating the camera you can hide holes or merge gaps to allow the character to walk across. For example if you have two beams, one horizontal with a hole in the middle and a vertical beam sitting separately you can rotate the camera so that the vertical beam blocks your view of the hole. Since you can no longer see the hole, your character can walk across.

Much of the concepts of the game are the optical illusions people have been impressed by for years. At times it can be a bit tricky because what you're doing doesn't make sense and it can mean quite a bit of spinning the cameras to make the beams join up in their unconventional way.

While some may complain about the poor graphics, personally I thought the presentation is outstanding. Everything (aside from that awful cover, what were they thinking??) is presented in a simple black and white scheme with a single violin providing the only music. The simplicity very much suits the game as anything more complex would make the illusions more difficult to see and they wouldn't work as well.

The game is available on both the PS3 (download only) and PSP although I prefer it for the PSP as I find it's the sort of game that's enjoyable to pick up and play for a couple of levels during a break. If you're looking for something a bit different from the mainstream games I'd highly recommend this

One of those games with simple graphics, but thats all they need to be.
No storyline, but there is no need for one.
A brilliantly simple game with no room for improvement.

Despite its simplicity, its as close to gaming perfection as anything has ever been.

 Brilliant

Another fantastic game that PSP owners around the world complain doesn't exist. Like Patapon, this will have you hooked for hours and hours. Simple yet highly effective. And the addition of a level creator means this game can last indefinitely.

Really should be selling in the top five, but alas PSP owners prefer to complain about a lack of games rather than go out and actually buy them.

Not a review of the game
