If you all ready have a PSP you may be wondering if it is worth buying the 3000 series. I originally had a PSP 1000 then they were first released. I like it a lot. The difference between the 1000 and 3000 series is impressive. The console is a lot lighter and the improved screen is very good. Outputting to a HD TV works fine and I have no complaints. Watching UMD Films is much better now it can be viewed on a larger TV. The only problem is you can see some square pixels moving about in the background. It is like watching a Video CD, of course with better quality.
My own issue with the PSP is the length of the power lead supplied. It is VERY small, half a metre at most! I had to use an extension lead just so I could play with it plugged in. But if you are the kind of person who leaves it to charge over night, and then play with it the next day you shouldn't have a problem with it.
I haven't tried the built in microphones, although I have seen tests and it does sound good. Look on youtube for it.
If you all ready have the 2000 series don't bother buying this one. On the other hand if you still have the original then I would buy it!
The 3000 series is supposed to load games quicker too and have double the ram installed. I have found that games do seem to load quicker and the UMD spins down quickly. I was surprised how quiet the system is.
So if you have a PSP 1000 series, then buy the PSP 3000. If you have a PSP 2000, and you all ready have a headset to use Skype or Go then don't bother.
I already own a PSP 1003, and just bought a silver PSP 3003. First - some myth busting. The screen is the same size as the previous consoles, so it isn't larger at all. Second - I can't tell if it a better screen, it looks pretty much the same to me. The one thing I like is how much lighter this is, compared to the 1003! On closer examination you see why - the plastic feels cheap, the UDM tray has been replaced by a pull out door that looks cheap and flimsy. I was going to sell my white PSP-1003 (the brick!), but decided to keep it, as the quality is better. I still love the PSP 3000 as its lighter and the battery should last a bit longer, but my advice is - if you already own a PSP 1000 or 2000, upgrading to the 3000 is unnecessary. Unless you have the spare cash and need to have the latest gadgets - then go for it.
I have all 3 types of psp and only got this for the added bonus of the built in mic to play Resistance Retribution (great game). The screen is supposedly better, but nobody I know can tell the difference, and it also states on the included junk pamphlets that the speakers have been improved. I think not. The sound is a bit tinny and on many games I have to have it at full volume almost. I suggest investing in a cheap pair of in-ear phones which also makes gaming much more intense. I opted for the silver one which was probably not so wise. It's damn cool looking but the analogue stick gets real dirty. A black one would have been preferable. The only other problem is the cable. It is ridiculously short and unless you want to sit on the floor by the plug socket you need an extension lead or use a charger from an older psp. All in all it's still the best handheld by far, just a shame it lacks the amazing quality of the original (brick) psp that is still my favourite. If you have spare cash then get one, if not, stick with the normal slim and lite one and buy yourself a headset with mic.
Get this instead of a PSP GO! It is cheaper and the huge advantage is that you can play UMD PSP games. This means that you can pick up preowned bargains and sell or trade old games in for new ones. I would also like to add that the PSP GO does nothing that the PSP 3000 cannot. Buy this instead if you have any common sense!
