Shadow hearts tells the story of harmonixer yuri who can transform into entities who's souls he has captured.he meets a girl called alice under dramatic circumstances and decides to protect her from a powerhungry warlock called roger bacon.the figthing system in this game is cool.you have to be constantley on your toes as you have to press the right sections of the judgement ring or else your command wont be executed.the story is dark and moody and brings you across europe and asia in suberb and gripping style.you simply want to follow these characters and see where the plot takes you next.this is probabley the most serious of the three games and still has lots of humour thrown in.it never feels too dramatic or takes itself too seriously.i would recommend anyone reading this to but this one as it is the original and will get your ready for the great sequel.but it now!!!

 Most underrated game ever

This is without doubt the most beautiful, absorbing and unique RPG since the amazing FFVII. Shadow Hearts moves me to tears and crushes the other insipid competition. Worth every penny. I have five copies!

Shadow Hearts is one of those rare games where you get what you pay for. Never before have I played a game to completion, sold it, then bought it mere weeks after just to play through again.

The story of almost every RPG is relatively similar (Save the world, significant other, city etc etc) and in all fairness, Shadow Hearts does little to change this, but it's saving grace is the way in which it delivers the story. The whole atmosphere is astoundingly moody and dark, and you really begin to feel for all of the characters. In essence, this could essentially be called a Horror RPG.

The story itself revolves around a young man called Yuri and a young lady called Alice whom he meets on a train in the opening scene after "saving" her from a British warlock. Although cliche (Save the girl), the story really does pick up with some of the most interesting characters you'll ever find in a video game.

Shadow Hearts uses a unique battle system idea know as the Judgement Ring. The ring is a simple idea, but is used extremely well. Basically, whenever you select an action, a ring pops up on the screen and an indicator starts sweeping through in a full 360 degree rotation. All you have to do is hit the X button when it sweeps over certain coloured sections, and the closer you are to the outer edge of these sections, the more damage you'll do. Other than the Judgement Ring, expect TURN BASED battles as usual. But don't be put off by this, as the ring more than makes up for it.

Incredible. Fitting. Awesome. 'Nuff said.

Overall, the game is brilliant, and definatly a must play if you havn't already. Even if you buy this game and sell it on, it would be more than worth it just to experience the brilliance that is Shadow Hearts.

 absolutely amazing

this has to be one of the most beautifully made games i've ever played. the music, the characters, the atmosphere... it's all just absolutely astounding. the story is fantastic and carries on brilliantly into the next game in the series. it's hard to get hold of now so a tad expensive... but i assure you it's worth every penny, you will play it more than once...

I took a bit of a risk buying this game. I'd never heard of it and it was a tad pricey. I wasn't disappointed though! It has a great story and the characters are compelling. The battle system offered something new for me with the judgement ring. The only faults with it are the voice overs which luckily does't come around often but when it does it's almost painful to hear! The battle system can be a bit repetitive as well. The judgement ring does make up for it though. Overall it's worth a play!
