Devil may cry 3 is without a doubt an amazing game! It's a shame that devil may cry 2 was so bad, but this one certainly does it's best to make up it.
As a prequel, Dante is a young man, who is just starting his business. He hasn't found a name for it yet either. The game shows how he eventually unleashes the power inside himself, and not to mention, how he finds the name for his business.
In Devil may cry 2, Dante is extremely boring, and hardly even speaks. In this game, however, Dante is fun-loving, entertaining, and makes very witty comments and he talks to enemies.
So they've done well with the character development. This is Dante at his best! But what about gameplay?
The game itself was well thought out - you can change different styles to whatever you prefer, which adds a touch of unique to his moves, and the way you play the game. It's unfortunate, though, that you can't switch through each style during the missions. In fact, you can only switch styles before you start the mission, or when you see the time god statue. Usually though, You'll find a style that you prefer, and keep to it.
The camera angles in this game allow you a bit more freedom than both dmc1, and 2. as you can take control of it. However, your camera angle will only allow limited movement, which can sometimes make it difficult to see certain things, however, some camera movement is certainly better than none whatsoever.
The story-line of the game is really something to behold, as it seems to piece together what we already know, but don't know how it got there. In other words it puts certain parts of the puzzle together, and we can finally see the full picture.
In the special edition of the game, you can also play as Vergil, Dante's sinister brother, who wants more power, and quickly becomes the focus of the game. If you'd rather play as Vergil first, instead of Dante, then you should get the special edition, rather than the normal DMC3 since in the normal version you can't play as him straight away.
One thing that certainly worth mentioning, is that the devil may cry series has always gone out of it's way to make things a little harder than the usual game, games in general now seem to hold your hand throughout. Devil May Cry 3 however, is not easy. when you play in the normal mode, don't expect things to tell you how they're done, or for the enemies take a hit and die. In fact, DMC3 was purposely made a lot harder than even the first and second. So if you've not played this before, then don't expect it to be a walk in the park.
Overall this game is packed with fairly awesome moves, and great story-line and some of the best character development around. If you're planning to play the series , either for the first time, or a second time, it might be best to play this game, then the first, then the recently released fourth.
Similarly to the previous games, I'd expect this game to soon stop being made, if it hasn't already. So it's best, if you want this game, you should buy it now... A great game, for a great price. because if like the first game, it becomes to get harder to find, the price will start to go up.
5 stars all round!
