Initially moving away from the mist-shrouded streets of the first two games, Silent Hill 3 focuses on a new female character. Heather, a gentle teenager, is on a trip to her local shopping centre when her life is turned upside down. As she prepares to leave, the shops and brightly lit walkways are transformed into a dark, brooding place where eerie noises echo around the empty corridors and where misshapen creatures can be glimpsed fleetingly amidst the shadows.
Trapped in this inhospitable world, Heather is forced to fight for her life. Grotesque apparitions and lumpen shapes shadow her every move, while an army of grotesque creatures lurk in dark corners and rooms. Armed with whatever she can find - including pistols, a sub-machine gun and a piece of steel pipe - Heather must fend off their advances while solving the mysteries that will gradually piece together why she is trapped in this hellish, insane world.
Silent Hill 3 represents a huge advance for the groundbreaking horror series. Its incredible aesthetic detail brings the game's dark corridors and blood stained rooms to life. Likewise, the unusual camera angles, eerie sound effects and musical stings ensure the player is kept in a permanent state of trepidation. Its horrific cast of bipedal and mutated adversaries - the most ever in a Silent Hill title - also demand attention, with the brief glimpses seen as the game progresses compounded when they are seen in all their horrific, flesh-eating glory. Together, these elements create a truly engrossing and unsettling experience, with Silent Hill 3 marking a new benchmark in horror-themed adventures for PlayStation 2.

 Scariest game ever

This is where my Silent Hill experience began.
And then almost ended.
This game... is terrifying. The atmosphere is almost crippling at times, and there is no relief of any kind from beginning to end.
The game begins with your character in an abandoned theme park, with a dark twist. It acts like a tutorial (it's a dream sequence) and even that is scary as hell.
There is then a short cut-scene, and away you go.
Silent Hill games revolve around the environment shifting between dimensions - the real, foggy dimension (though the other is foggy sometimes as well), and the hellish nightmare dimension (and believe me - it is hellish.)
Also, the enemy designs are genius, and really, really disturbing. They also make some damn nasty sounds.
While the storyline isn't as good as Silent Hill 2s, it's still pretty good, and the characters are decent.
Also, this game is home to the single most terrifying moment I have ever experienced in gaming. Without giving too much away - doll room. Fans will know what I mean!
So if you wanna play a pretty well sized game that will really, really creep you out, this is the game for you!

 Brilliant stuff but scary!!

This is basically the sequel to the first Silent Hill not the second one. I think the second one was prequel or after this game but I'm not sure, it's confusing how they called this number 3 when it's a sequel to number 1. But nevermind that's another topic for another day. For now it's what do I think of this game.

Well I think it's excellient as always with Silent Hill.....well til The Room was made. Anyway the main character in this is Heather who's Harry's (From the first game) daughter and the terror spirits from Silent Hill finds her in some mall in some town possibly near Silent Hill I don't know. The confusing but great storyline is here again and so is the scares. It's an awesome game that shouldn't be avoided or any of the previous Silent Hill games but take my advice, stay away from The Room. You'll thank me

 good game scary graphics:(

love this game.probably my favourite after sh2.love the way you play a female.its a first for the series.good support characters if a little on the bleak side but then again this is silent ill.all the main people have somewhat tired and errie looks about them including our heroine heather.the addition of guns hardcore guns is a welcoming change as well as some of the darkest rooms you will ever enter in a silent hill game.this is the last sh game that really had the atmosphere and disturbing sounds.bring on sh5!!!

silent hill 3 for me is the second best in the series, with a gripping storyline and an edgey atmosphere and not to mention creepy feeling of dread and sadness.
if your a true silent hill fan this is a ''must have'' for you all. the best advice i can give is play with the lights and and have a few mates with you as i did none of the above.

silent hill 3 rocks.

Silent Hill 1 took us on a ride down uncomfortable vile, Silent Hill 2 took us to the borders of psychosis, and Silent Hilll 3 will take you to the realm of violence.

Silent Hill 3 is a continuation of Silent Hill 1, it passes the same road, and for this, you'll have to have played SH1.
The story follows the life of Heather, a young girl, whom is suddenly cast into a horror world, of which she has no clue of. You'll follow her, all the way to Silent Hill, but not for the first half of the game.

The story is great, the characters are great, and once again, the limits of psychosis will be tickled once more. Though in this version, everything is so violent. The levels become more and more violent, and for once, the weapons in the game, are strangely even more violent then before (such as a flamethrower and a submachine gun). The gameplay is the same as in Silent Hill 2, and this can be a bit of a problem, as the basic combat system still has that awkward aiming problem. The camera will be more frustrating then ever before, and all this, can make the game a bit less enjoyable then before.

But, what makes up for this, are the graphics. At first, you'll think of them as bland, unoriginal, even....ordinary, but as the game progresses, the design become more violent, even to the point that the walls will start to bleed. It's sick...it really is, and this give the game such a dramatic shock value, that you'll almost feel as if somebody has gripped you by the throat and if forcing you to play the game. it's intence, and the survival horror aspect becomes even stronger, as the game will give you a sense of security, only to pull it all away.

the music is better then before, and if you find the cd, buy it. best ambiant music ever.

buy this game, if you like survival horror.
