Set in the 60s and using the Cold War as its inspiration, Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater forces the player to adopt a number of new skills to survive in Snake's new jungle environment. Danger lurks everywhere as Snake explores the beautifully-realised forests, encampments and rivers, with guards patrolling key routes, dangerous animals to contend with, and the uneven terrain and noisy foliage making the silent approaches the Metal Gear hero is famed for virtually impossible.
However, Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater's lush locale can also be used to Snake's advantage, and the free-roaming gameplay allows the player to approach problems laterally. He can now climb trees to avoid detection and hang from branches with one arm while picking off assailants with his gun, or simply by dropping onto them. Similarly, the noise of guards crunching through fallen leaves can alert Snake to their presence, while the long grasses and collapsed trees provide additional cover.
In addition to the jungle setting, which gives way to confrontations atop a waterfall and a top-secret military base, series creator and Director Hideo Kojima has added a number of key additions to make the most of the outdoor locations. Enemy guards are now more intelligent and work as a group, utilising SAS-style search and destroy patterns as they hunt, while the open spaces of the jungle exterior afford little in the way of hiding places at times.
  • Gameplay set in Cold War era 1960's
  • Camoflage System: Use different combinations of uniform and face paints to blend into your environment
  • Food: Capture and eat animals & plants to sustain Snake's health and abilities
  • Close Quarters Combat (CQC): Take on enemies up close and personal with knives and martial arts techniques for silent kills

Exclusive content for the PAL version includes:

  • Duel Mode - Battle through the game's Boss Fights independently
  • Demo Theatre - Watch all the cut scenes in sequence
  • European Extreme difficulty level
  • 2 New Levels in Snake Vs Monkey Mode
  • New Face Paint and Camoflage Designs not available in US or Japanese versions

Ah Nostalgia, Metal Gear Solid although not the most realistic of stealth games provided an instantely likeable main character and a complex intriguing story that kept you hooked until the closing credits. Much of the Originals greatness came from the story and twists of Snakes Life itself leaving you loving his character and history and, lets be honest, wanting to be as cool, tough and just simply awesome, as him yourself. What a huge shame Snake is only playable for , say, an hour of Metal Gear Solid 2, and although still a good game the story provided such complexity and twists that many gamers were left with a feeling of unfulfilment and frustration, not least at the character Raidens Girly Physique, Hair and whiney Voice. so it is with great Pleasure that Hideo Kojima decided to go back in time and tackle the Very roots of Snake himself Albeit playing Solid Snakes Father Big Boss, Voiced by David Hayter we are once again unleashed into a world of Stealth, intruiging characters exciting plot twists and, Oh thank The God of Metal Gear Solid, One of the best damn computer Game Characters ever. Snake Is back in a game that is twice as long as its predeccessors, just as good as Metal Gear Solid 1 and with nice shiney graphics to make you forgive Hideo and his team for making you play as (lets call him) PIT STAINS for most of Game 2. With multiple backstabbings, and so many freakin' twists at the end this game is a joy to play, using the same engine as Number 2 it is not so much a complete revolution of the gaming experience but with a wonderfully told story that remenisces of Bond mixed with Rambo 2 We have here a fantastic return to form and something that good old snake can be proud of. If people were put off by Number 2 then dont let that fool you, Buy this game, it'l probably be going cheap now, and it wont be regretted, You start to feel sorry for Big Boss throughout and its no surprise why he eventually turned out how he did. The only slight flaw is that there's no cyborg Ninja, which is why the first game still has the edge.

Buy this and lets forget Raiden ever lived, oh the game even rips it out of him at several parts and so its good to see It still has its old Humour.

Great GReat GAME

Shame Number 4's got Raiden in it, you'd think he would have learned better.

 Excellent

Hideo Kojima is a genius for coming up with metal gear. I've played all of them and its the best games series i've ever played. This game is set before mgs1 in the cold war. For a ps2 game the graphics are brilliant. Highly recommend this game to anyone.

 Prequel of MGS1

Konami has really done it again.

Not the best in the series but still one of the best games that I've ever played. A great storyline and boss battles you'll take to your grave....

 One of the BEST!

For anyone that loved metal gear solid 1, this is the game for you. It has all the stuff MG1 had and much much more. You can even play this game for fun, mucking around with your enemys. After MG2 i was a little dissapointed but now that MG3 (Snake Eater) has arrived i still hold out for the next Metal Gear. 100% Great Game!
