A artistic masterpiece in its own right. The graphics are georgous, with the "world" being one massive level with no loading screens. The fights with the magnificantly detailed colossus are tense and breath taking and there's always the wonder of what you're facing next. As for the controls, everyone seems to forget that you're controlling a horse, not some automatic car, ride a horse in real life and find out how easy it is to control!. The horse moves its head and body just like a real equine, I galloped around it circles for a while, amazed at the way it moved. Possibly the strongest element of the game is the score. The music is exhilerating and heartbreakingly beautiful throughout the game, right up until the emotion filled ending. It's a must buy for anyone who can appreciate games that aren't all about guns and gore. After you've immersed yourself in Shadow of the colossus, you'll wonder why there aren't more games out there like this. A drop of pure light amongst the raging violence of the videogaming world.
If you have a Playstation 2 you should have this game it's magic and puts a big smile on your face each time you work out how to defeat a Colossus. The graphics are so good it puts a lot of PS2 games to shame. The controls are a bit fiddle to start with but after a few hours play, no problem you become one with the game which does'nt happen to often. As games have to be really great for you not to want stop playing untill the end. The ending is most impressive the only sad thing is you are left wanting more. This game is made by Sony so we are the only lucky ones who get to play it like other great Sony games such as God Of War 1 & 2, Ico, Killzone and Gran Turismo. Maybe I get Myself a Playstation 3 if they do Shadow Of The Colossus 2.
I love games like this, this has a whole beautiful world to explore with real physics, and you can just keep going right to the edge of the map, the land never stops at invisible walls and there is no track, sure you can play the game, but you can also just go for a nice ride, or a walk, or even a swim, just go that-a-way and see what's there, and if you get a bit bored with that, well, there are these amazing huge and scary creatures that you can try and beat in a fair fight, or indeed, just go for a ride on one of THEM!
And you just cannot believe the PS2 can look THIS good!
If you love Grand Theft Auto and shoot 'em up games, you'll probably hate this, if you love Resident Evil games and Ico and such, you may fall in love with it!
I recently purchased the soundtrack to this game for my new iPod and I felt compelled to write a review of this game I played over a year ago.
I think the thing that stands out about this game is the sheer beauty of it, which is unrivaled in the world of gaming. Off the top of my head, the only thing I can compare this game to is the rush of awe I got when I first watched Peter Jackson's Lord of the Rings at the Cinema; it was unlike anything I'd ever seen before. Everything just seems to gel perfectly; the gameplay is superb and the soundtrack complements the action perfectly. Honestly, the only aspect I can criticise is the fact that it has to end. And I've never been so disappointed to complete a game before! lol I just wanted it to last forever! This game was obviously a labour of love for the developers; so much effort has went into it and it really puts most of the PS3 and XBOX360 games to shame.
The only small criticism I have is that it is a little short. However, I feel that is possibly a backhanded compliment, i.e. the game is THAT GOOD that you do not want it to end!
There has yet to be a game with better graphics, on any PS2 gen platform. Also no game is as in depth in the surroundings, unless you want to include the PC which has The Matrix Online, where you can go in every room in an entire city. But it is still amazing, fighting the giant monsters is one thing, but they are all so different, which makes it a challenge, which is what gaming is all about. A 100% gamers game, end of.
