An experiment at a secret research facility has gone catastrophically wrong. Daniel Lamb and Leo Kasper are the only surviving subjects. The Pickman Project will stop at nothing to hunt them down and stop the truth from getting out.

Demented screams echo around the dank asylum that has caged you for the last six years. You open your eyes. A white-coated body slumps to the floor through your shaking hands. A bloody syringe slips from your arm. Waves of confusion and paranoia crash over you. You have no idea who you are or how you got here.

The door to your cell is open. One choice. One chance. They took your life. Time to take it back.

 Heavily Censored. Not worth buying.

The BBFC didn't want this game to be released. They said it was too violent even for adults. To get the game onto shelves Rockstar has had to censor the most violent parts.

Those familiar with the original Manhunt will know you hunt your enemy and perform one of three violent kills. Each more violent than the last. Problem with Manhunt 2 is these violent executions have been heavily censored. The screen turns bright red then as your hits are connecting the screen flashes black and white and the camera shakes around. It totaly ruins the shock of the kill and for me the only reason to play the game was gone.

At its heart Manhunt 2 is just a below average, very basic stealth game. It has nothing going for it other than the violence. Some people say the story is good. If I want a good story I read a book. I buy games for enjoyment while playing them.

I should also mention that the red, shaky screen during executions gave me a headache and made me feel sick. There is no way to turn this effect off.

I returned Manhunt 2 today and got a refund. I'm really disappointed too because I've been looking forward to it since I beat the original years ago. The first Manhunt is better in every way and you get to see the executions without the unnecessary censorship.

 Not like the first

Manhunt was a great game on PS2 for me.Everything about it made a great thriller. Now comes manhunt 2 and to me manhunt 2 is not like the first one bit.It just has the same name.

However it still in it's own right is a great game and i would recomend any thriller fan to buy this. The story i found to be great and the gameplay. The only downside is to much use of guns and for me this takes away the feeling the first manhunt had.I would go as far to say this game is one of a kind and it uses the GTA 3 engine. If you have not played the first manhunt i would say go with that first if you have i would say don't exspect this to be the same.

Not worth the fuss and outrage it generated

After 15 months of delays, censor bans, court appeals and one single approval from the VAC, Manhunt 2 finally is released in the UK. The first game banned by the BBFC since Carmageddon 10 years ago, this game has generated more controversy than any other game of its kind, but now the fuss is over, was it really worth the outrage? No. OK then, was it worth the wait?

Sadly again, no. For someone who enjoyed the first game immensely, this game feels more like a retread of the first, carrying all similarities and flaws the first had with no actual improvements. The main gripes I had with this game is that this is the 'modified' release of Manhunt 2 (the version that toned down the violence) and by that, the executions are blurred over by a red de-colouration effect that looks quite similar to that of an LSD trip. This is designed to dampen the impact of the violence but instead is more likely to give you an epileptic seizure. Another of the modifications is that the scoring system has been removed (so that the game doesn't appear to be rewarding you for murder). In the original, the game graded you depending on your stealthy kills and the amount of time it took to complete the game, and depending on your grade, you achieved unlockable bonus levels, so there was replay value and extra challenge within that - Not in this game though, the sole purpose is to get from start to finish, no secrets to find anywhere, and there is only one unlockable level to get - by completing the game itself. So it diminishes any challenge or replay value.

The only changes made simply revolve around the violence, there are now 'environmental kills' where you use surroundings indicated on your radar to kill your enemy, or executions where you jump from a high level to kill. You can also execute with firearms this time round. It sounds nifty but it gets very repetitive after a while, because the violence is ALL this game has to offer, and as the game's has been messed with to avoid more public outcry, it tarnishes most of the gameplay.

Its also important to note that the A.I. of the enemies haven't improved either. They're still the same stupid brand of villians who give up looking for you once you hide in the shadows, and seeing as this game doesn't incourage you enough to use stealth, (it more or less turns into a generic third person shooter halfway through) it makes them all the more easier to dispatch.

Graphics wise: Exactly the same as the 2003 original. Which is a shame really because it looks sightly dated in this era of next generation video games.

The one positive aspect must be that it has an addictive quality that might see you play it through to the end. Though it must be said also that its short enough to be completed in a single afternoon.
I don't think that Rockstar should contemplate producing a third Manhunt title. Not just to avoid the public backlash the series has already indured but the fact that there isn't a great deal to offer within these games.

 Awesome game

If you can get over the blanked out executions (which to be fair are a bit of a let down) this is still a really good sequel and a fun game to play. If you're a fan of the first one then you should have no problem getting to grips with it and enjoying it. Camera movement is a bit dodgy but not much of a hinderence unless you;re cornered by hunters and can't escape!

Shame it wasn't a next gen title though, as the graphics are a bit dated and if you're used to xbox/ps3 gaming like me, you might find it hard getting back into this now old school looking game. But once you're over these little flaws i'm sure you'll agree that this is a great stealth action game.
