God of War saw Kratos, a mortal warrior, set upon an epic quest to dethrone a God. But his journey did not end there. In God of War II, Kratos sits atop his Olympus throne, as the new God of War - far more ruthless than Ares ever was. To end his continued torment, Kratos must journey to the far reaches of the earth and defeat untold horrors and alter that which no mortal, or god has ever changed, his fate. God of War II sets an epic stage for a devastating mythological war to end all wars.

An excellent title, but not a huge leap from the last game

If you liked the original God of War, you'll like this is the simplest way to put it.

It's once again incredibly engrossing, lovely to look at and as violent as you could want it to be, but it is more or less the same game as the first one but with different levels and some added gameplay sequences(flying stages, etc). This is either a good or a bad thing depending on your take on things, but for me, I'm happy enough that it's at least as good as it's predecessor when it could easily have been worse.

Highly recommended, but don't expect anything different from the last GoW game.

Nothing....NOTHING is quite as good as this.

Right let us begin, We love the first God of War, we do, It was, and is, gorgeous, grand, brutal, and wonderfully immersive as its glorious storyline unfolds to the very end we were hooked and as soon as we had beaten the game it was a near must we should do it again and try to achieve God mode. Such replayability woudl only add to joy of playing and realising that here was a game that seemingly came out of knowhere, and where many have tried, been crap, and failed in the past, this one had gave all a hard slap in the mouth awakening once again a love for fantasy beat em ups.

Now what to say about its successor, and it is very much a successor, graphically alone its surpasses not only the first game, but all competitors being highly detailed and beautiful, flowing with colour, intensity and, for a PS2, the kind of smoothness and luxuries that some next gen games aren't even accomplishing. The Story, now that is something else, traversing sky, seas, mountains and a huge ancient island Kratos searches for the sisters of Fate after a betrayal from Zeus, to alter the course of his destiny, and wheareas the first game was supposedly a journey into unknown lands (the deseart of lost souls) it felt like all was positioned far too close to the city of Athens where you start and so not a particularly big journey to make. However after you have flown pegasus twice you catch sight of the Island of Creation and through many temples, forests and even the bottom of the earth onto a very bored Atlas you reach an ancient palace, where, to our glee the game only continued more. This game not only looks the part but feels the part also, For those who loved the Greek Mythological films *See Clash of The Titans* and the sense of a long journey into the unknown God Of War 2 Will produce much salivating in Anticipation for a truly magnificent experience. The Enemies are creative and look and move (and Die) better than in the first game and with three times as many boss battles this title not only surpasses its predeccessor but in the true style of Kratos himself pulls its limbs off and beats it round the head for not being as good. Twice as Long as The first God of War the journey heralds more variety of locations also.
even smaller things like the way Kratos climbs look and feel much more than the first, with Kratos hammering his Blades into climbable objects and using the knives themselves to hoist himself up. The only one, and when we note one we mean only one, tiny small, almost insignificant flaw is that there are less places where you are, for instance, surounded by enclossing spikes whilst the floor moves towards them and you must battle enemies and theres death everywhere etc... DO NOT WORRY there are moments and oooohhh yes they may grate after the fifth or tenth try, but this is the one and only moment where the first game has a little something that number two slightly lacks. But hey! What the Hell! Terminator two didn't have that er soldier bloke in it did it, see no one cared and thats exactly what we think here, we just dont care, God of War 2 is a piece of Art, gloriously presented and the title that now at the end of its days still defines the PS2, Best PS2 title? Yes! Best Game Ever? Maybe! Althought that place is still held by Final Fantasy 7, this game shall honour the place behind and mark itself as one of the best games ever made, dont just buy this, buy it twice and create your own shrine to its eternal reign over all games in the Action/Beat-em up genre.

         GAME of the YEAR

What a game!! GOWII has everything you could want from a game. Action, Violence, Nudity, Top graphics, Wonderful story and mind blowing in-game action sequences. It's graphically one of the most beautiful games I have EVER seen, you just don't want to stop playing, you totally fall into the world of the Gods and Kartos. The graphics in the Hi-Res videos are the best I've ever seen. They are even better than Resistance and Gears of War. This game is without a doubt MY game of the year, and it's definetly Game of the Year on the PS2 without a doubt. GO OUT AND BUY IT NOW and if you haven't bought GOWI you should get it as well!! I cannot wait for GOWIII on the PS3.

One of the most outstanding games i've ever played!!

This is without a doubt one of the best games i've ever played! The story is excellent and very addictive and the graphics are stunning! I would definately recommend anyone to have a look at this game! Hopefully they're making a God of War 3...I haven't played the first one yet but if it's anything like number 2 i'll deinately be playing that next!

         A must play sequel!

I was worried that this latest installment wouldn't live up to the amazing quality of the first. I was worried for nothing, however, as this game is just as good, if not better than the first game.

Once again the story is interesting, perhaps not as interesting as the original story, but it is still good, albeit slightly complicated and you often have to think "what's going on?" This however does not dampen the gameplay at all.

Just like the original there is plenty of violence and gore to keep fans of the original happy and to make newcomer's vomit along with those who hate the sight of blood.

The graphics are even better in this game than they were in God Of War and it still surprises me that the Playstation 2 is capable of pushing out what it does.

Once again the combat and magic system are spot on and do not seem thrown in. However, there are some "sub weapons" that you collect during the game, but there is no particular purpose for them which is a waste of time when you fight a boss and retreive his weapon, only to find that you don't need it in the end.

There are some challenging levels on this game which will make you frustrated, but it is very rewarding when you complete them.

This game excels in different areas than it's predecessor, and it is a very good game. It is not as perfect as the original, but only due to little things. However, this aside, it is an excellent game and if you own a Playstation 2, God Of War and God Of War 2 make the perfect threesome.
