Sonic Unleashed

I bought this for my nephew and decided to check it out as i never really got into it the megadrive versions back in the day and although i have seen sonic heroes i thought it was too popcorn and cheesy for me so i never played it.
I have to say i was very impressed by the all new 'sonic unleased', the game is full on 3d and the sense of speed is amazing, it seems like they have really thought about the story line and gameplay this time round, having been captured by eggman sonic has been turned in a werehog. This brings about the inclusion of day and night stages - in the day sonic is all about speed, collecting rings and beating timelimits to open stages. At night he is all about using combos with aggression and strecth arms to reach hard to reach areas. I like the inclusion of a combo bar and a speed meter - hitting the circle button when these bars are full enable you to unleash a special attack or a wave of speed.
The levels i have played were smooth (although the camera does lose it sometimes) and sonic has this go-go-go happy attitude and a real heart too which is just so infectious it makes you feel almost obligated to do well for him.
I don't know 'play' have done it, but here is the cheapest i have seen this game sold for.
At £14.99 for ps2 it is a serious no brainer - buy it.

I was a big Sonic fan when I had a Megadrive years ago so I was hoping that the gameplay of Sonic Unleashed would be as good. It is... every bit. It has crazy break-neck scampering around and a nice bit of combat tucked in for good measure. It's also got some really nice variety between the different countries to keep things interesting. The 2D and 3D gaming really does blend together seamlessly which amazed me. I expected it to be a bit confusing, but it really isn't. If I'm honest there is a bit of faffing about inbetween missions and I suppose that could be annoying for some - personally I kind of like it. It's good that it spends a bit of time teaching you the moves at the beginning of the game too - I've never been much of a handbook-reader when it comes to video games!
