PES 2009 is the latest installment of the award-winning Pro Evolution Soccer Series, which is known by millions of fans for its superior gameplay and incredible realism. For PES 2009, Konami is already planning a raft of extensive new additions that will further bridge the gap between PES and the real thing. The new game has undergone a stunning graphical update to ensure its players look and move even more like their real-life counterparts. Similarly, all-new options allow users to tailor the game to their own tastes, while new moves, innovative new control elements and key online elements will further the realism of the new game.
  • New player models, AI elements and physics routines
  • 'Become a Legend' mode - Start your career as a rookie midfielder or striker and work your way through the ranks to become a pro. Play in your favourite attacking position and work as part of a team, as opposed to controlling every player.
  • 'Legends' online mode - Use your saved 'Become a Legend' player in online matches with like-minded friends, and show off your skills on the larger online stage.
  • Redefined intricacies of first touch, close control and ball distribution
  • Enhanced shooting and AI mechanisms
  • The new control system makes full use the D-Pad and analogue stick to perform contextual tricks and feints within the players run.
  • Weather, air resistance and ground friction all have an affect on the balls motion - alter your play to match the conditions just like in real-life.
  • Teamvision AI has been extended allowing computer controlled team mates to adapt their tactics more realistically.
  • A reworked Master League means a players' loyalty and mood now affects their performance on the pitch.
  • Enhanced realism through aesthetic updates, including stadium environments and atmosphere.
  • Improved depth of field through the use of contrast for a greater sense of distance.
  • New vertical camera that automatically switches to a close-up view during key one-on-one situations.
RegionPAL: Will play on UK and European Playstation2 only

 Great game play...But problems

I have all the PES dating back to 1998/9, even from the playstation 1. I have the Playstation 2, and I think PES 2009 is a great game. Playing the game is just as exciting as watching the real thing, how ever with my PES 2009 I have some problems: - When making a subtitute, the player you sub is still on the pitch??mmm. And the game always crashes after a game. Don't know if you have same problem, but make sure you notice these faults before your returns policy ends.

Too many bugs, stick to the old version for now.

I've been playing PES 2009 quite a bit since getting it over the weekend and I'm afraid to say it is poor.

The graphics are not as good as previous versions and it is full of bugs. For example, sometimes when making subs during a match the subs don't actually come on. The same subs are now greyed-out and the substitutions used up. After a match when selecting view individual games details the game sometimes crashes (black screen, nothing happens).

The 'become a legend' new feature would be quite good if it weren't for the problems in this game.

I can only reiterate comments I've heard from other people and on some forums; the PS2 version of this game must have been a complete non-starter for Konami. 0 for effort.

 Looking Good

Having only had a brief chance to play PES2009 on PS2, I have to say the signs look good. The be a legend mode looks highly entertaining and provides a bit of depth to the gameplay. Granted it may get old, however once you are done you can always fall back on the other 'traditional' modes. As with all new versions of PES, I have found it takes a while to get used to the updates, as slight as they may be. For this version, the shooting control seems to be a little more sensitive and, certainly in my case, will take a while to get used to. The signs, however, are encouraging that PES2009 has again taken the franchise a step forward and keeps it head and shoulders above the competitors.

 ok but not the best

Only played two matches so far, what on earth have they done with the graphics?! PES 5 which was out 4 years ago knocks spots off it! The PS2 version is looking an after thought from Konami.
