Step onto the pitch and play professional football your way in EA Sports FIFA 09. Experience the most authentic football simulation EA Sports has delivered on the PlayStation 2 as you live the fantasy of playing as a professional player.

With 500 new animation sequences and all-new collision and shielding systems-representing the biggest innovations to the game engine in four years - FIFA 09 delivers more responsive, intelligent and realistic physical action.

A new collision detection system with 360 degree coverage and hundreds of new collision animations enable players to behave according to their physical attributes. Player speed, direction and strength now determine everything from the severity of the collision to the outcome of possession. Plus, contact occurs with shoulders, arms and legs. Stronger players possess the strength to knock down smaller players or use their body or arms to win challenges.

Player strength and momentum also determine outcomes in challenges through the new shielding system, with dozens of new outcomes created. Plus, players can now shield the ball by pushing off the defender to create space - at the risk of being called for a foul - just like real life. The increased control shielding the ball adds another strategic element to matches, enabling you to slow the game's pace as needed.

500 New Animation Sequences: The largest overhaul of the football animation system delivers more responsive, intelligent and realistic physical action. Players move more fluidly around the pitch.

New Collision Detection System: With 360 degree coverage players behave according to their physical attributes. Stronger players now possess the strength to knock down smaller players during collisions or use their body and arms to shield the ball in challenges.

New Shielding System: Player strength and momentum determine outcomes in challenges. Slow the pace of a game with increased control shielding the ball, enabling you to bring support players into the action.

Pro Skill Moves: Four new skill gives you a total of 32 tricks in your arsenal, making it easier to recreate signature moves of the real-world superstars.

Be A Pro Seasons: Pick a professional player or create a player and test your football ability over four seasons. Master positioning, improve your attributes and develop into an elite player.

Smart Play Controls: Pass, shoot, and score using a graduated control system. Start with the simplified two-button control system and then learn more controls at your own pace on-the-fly.

Be A Pro Camera: The unique player-focused Be A Pro Camera debuts on PlayStation 2 to immerse you into the action. The new camera tracks your player, re-creating the excitement as if you were on the pitch yourself.

Manager Mode: Featuring new options for pre-season friendlies, and the ability to create formations to customise your club for each opponent.

Tournament Mode: Play 61 tournaments, including 42 officially licensed ones, or create one of your own.

Challenge Mode: Take on the challenge of overcoming a variety of difficult scenarios to earn rewards and unlockables.

Greatest Fifa game on the PS2 but more or less the same

                    | | See all kuxxis's reviews (14)

Fifa 09's graphic's are slightly better compared to Fifa 08 but as for the rest it's nearly the same. The graphics of this game cannot be compared to the latest consoles. I would recommend this game only if you don't have Fifa 08 but it's a great game anyway.

                     fifa 09

This is so similar to fifa 08, the celebrations are the same, some of the players look more similar to the stars, however the playability is the same nothing really has changed. Perhaps for fifa10 they should get the stars to celebrate like the real stars, so much has remained the same!

                     Pretty Good

Another year another fifa and this years fifa is not much different from 08 - the graphics are the same, the layout is pretty much the same its just the squads that have changed and the new pass and shoot buttons which dont have power gauges.
I think for this to be the game it should be you have to get a ps3

EA Sports Have Failed Again To Make It Realistic

                    | | See all Rocketscience's reviews (1)

I waited in anticipation for this latest release of FIFA (09), read the the reviews and thought at last they may have got it right, well what a disappointment. Still the same flaws as before. Where do I start there are so many, being a UEFA B coach I think I know a bit about football unfortunately EA have programmers who don't. Game play in Manager Mode is really bad like the previous editions. Commentary does not match what has happened and here is just one example "What a shot when a player has head the ball", but the real in game problems have never gone away.

Goals are still being awarded when shots just go slightly wide of the goal and if a cross comes in from the wings and hits the side netting, is that (Stuart Attwell) refereeing.

Offside seem to be hit and miss, scored several goals in only a few games into my season which even Rob Stiles would have definitely got the decision right for offside.

Scored a goal in one game then suddenly I have no players at kick off the opposition score and then my team reappears at kick off.

Still the computer player with the ball will run across from one side of the pitch to the other side without passing and then run the ball out for a throw in.

Great play by the computer it has broken down my defence it's one on one with my goalkeeper just outside the penalty area, my defence gives chase, it's down to my goalkeeper now, but hang on the computer player doesn't want to score instead he heads back towards my defenders (Pele or Best) comes to mind who could have gone round the entire opposition again. This is really a joke.

Goalkeeper kits clash with the opposition.

Transfers of players to computer teams, sold Berbatov (9) to Newcastle United made a profit (Great), two games later Berbatov is wearing the No (2) shirt, this is where the game falls down badly, any player sold that is not as good as the player wearing the same shirt No is always allocated No 2, if the player coming in is better then he takes his previous club shirt No and the player who was that No is then moved to shirt No that is next available.

But now there are added features which have come into this addition of FIFA, shielding of the ball, if you turn your back on the computer opposition players and not move, it takes an age for the computer to register that it has to go to your player.

In my opinion don't bother buying it

Wow! Fifa 09 is honestly a lot better then pro its upsetting

                    | | See all only1hitman's reviews (1)

I was a huge pro fan after fifa kept bringing out really fake football games, but last year i bought pro like i always do but for the ps3 and it was really bad every think that was good on the ps2 versions didn't follow on to "next gen gaming".

I heard fifa 08 was really good so i downloaded the demo for fifa 09 it was so great i pre-ordered it.

Let me tell you the fifa 09 demo is nothing compared to the actually game, i mean once you start playing it you ll see little things that make the game real like the way tevez shifts the ball from his right foot to left to place it in the corner. You can curl the ball in this game and place the ball in the net like you would when you actually play football. This was never evident in pro overall fifa 09 is the best buy do not even wait for pro to come out and try both just get this if you played the pro 09 demo its even worst then mario soccer!!
