The lead character in Devil May Cry, Dante, is a dark figure shrouded in mystery. Legend has it that 2000 years ago in the depths of hell, a demon swordsman awoke to justice and rebelled against the devil, waging a one-man war in support of the human world. Two thousand years later Dante, a private investigator of the supernatural, realises that the devil is rallying to rise again against mankind. How does Dante fit into this gothic puzzle? Deep within his blood lies the power of ancient demons and as his power builds he transforms into a demon state where he can inflict unearthly powers on the wretched souls he encounters. As Dante continues his adventure he will find powerful weaponry, including dual-pistols and shotguns; he will discover powerful swords, each possessing various elemental powers. This devil hunter will lead players into the fantastic dark world as his destiny is played out in a gothic battle of good against evil. If Dante is successful, the 'Devil May Cry'.
As he seeks revenge for the past, Dante will face many evil beings including demonic marionettes, Death and phantoms.

 Excellent all around.

I never had a PS2. So when the PS3 came out and announced it's backward compatibility feature, I thought to myself how brilliant it would be to play all the games I missed out on, and then of course, access to ps3 games.

Since Devil May Cry 4 has now been released on the ps3, I thought nows the time to play the DMC series of games. And I'm VERY glad I am.

I've just finished playing this game for the first time, and although it now has awful graphics, it's still acceptable considering it's age. The gameplay makes this title very fun to play, and it's not long enough to get at all boring. The story-line is superb, and can only be classed as one of the best action games on the PS2.

Best 3rd person action game ever made

I remember playing the jap demo for this game way back, and thinking this to be the best game ever made. The 1st to me will always be the best because it had such a big impact and also I think an impact on how 3rd person games are made today. It still plays great after all this time and in my opinion better than 2 & 3. This is a true gem.

Top 100 Games Reviewer

This is probably one of the top 5 games on PS2. With a sword and gun combination plus more unlockables throughout the game, the action here is immense. Your character (Dante) is half demon, half human which means you have the ability to change into a super demon. Bosses are amazing in this game with your cool as ice Dante facing up to them. The graphics are very good with a phenomenal storyline. I cannot recommend this enough but if you have a PS2, you must own this game.

This game is amazing and truly the best ps2 game ever made it set the standards for gaming and made a great impact and started a nice series and anime and comics I loved how Dante went after mundius the demon who killed hes mother found the story great graphics great and gameplay great at times it could be frustrating and a challenge but this game certanily changed gaming history and created a great series the original is always the best for its deep story line and understanding of dantes life I fully completed this game and was pleased with its ending
