I got this game a few days ago, and im having abosolute loads of fun with it. its like playing call of duty zombies in a 3rd person format, yet a more enjoyable story then yakuza 4. this game is a must buy
Avoid like the plague!
This has to be the worst game ever to come out of japan! The controls are so so awful. You have no or little control, just go to ign and watch the review. Most top game critics have ridculed this pile of doggy do do
Luckily i managed to trade two days later with little lose of purchase price. I don't know what the other two reviewers are on but they must own wii's or something lol
Any Yakuza fan is in for a real treat with this game. The majority of the mechanics that fans have come to love in the series are mostly intact, stuff like karaoke, playing arcade games at Club Sega, playing golf, pool, darts etc. so there's definitely no shortage of things to do.
Story pretty tongue-in-cheek but thoroughly entertaning from start to finish. Gameplay is very different from Yakuza games because you're mowing down thousands of zombies over the course of the main story in stead of fistfighting two or three thugs at once. There's still a lot of "faffing about" for anyone who like that sort of thing. there are tons of side quests and you can liberate stores from attacking zombies.
Dozens of hours of pure entertainment, and you could propably wring out closer to a hundred hours if you wanted to get the platinum trophy. Though I guess it's worth saying that if you don't like how the Yakuza mechanics feel, you may be put off by this game. The shooting mechanics feel vastly different to most western shooters.
This is already one of my absolute top games of 2012.
I'm a big fan of the Yakuza series. Its strong narrative with character focus and boundless gameplay ensures a great amount of fun as well as challenge. But Yakuza with Zombies? Surely not.
Well they did and turns out it is a half great game half bad.
Good- Story
Lots to do
Open-world
Mini-games (from golf to pool to Japanese gambling)
Great Japanese voice-acting
Lots of fun and on harder difficulties presents an almighty challenge
Cons- Terrible camera
Repetition grows tiresome in later chapters with hordes of zombies to go through
Graphics can be largely dull with a hefty use of grey and jarring. Also the res gets really slow when there is a lot on screen.
Poor game design in places
Shooting mechanics are average at best
Overall I enjoyed it. Fun, different and cheap. Certainly one of the more entertaining games I have played. Yet while entertaining, it does not cover up the flaws of poor game design choices and in the bulk of the game when facing zombies in later levels, it really does begin to grind. Yet there is plenty on offer here and I would recommend it to the gamers that want to try something different. Just don't expect Uncharted-type quality gameplay.
