The idea of the game is good but I think that's when they stopped putting some thought into it.
The game consists of doing the same few things over and over again and hearing the same things. It just feels like they copy, pasted one part f the game and then called it the "finished product". When playing the game you'll find that all you do is;

- Climb to the top of a tower to reveal part of the map. (Gets incredibly annoying after the first 5 times, little do you know you have to do it a further 300 or so more times or at least that's what it feels like, to get the full maps)
- Save some peasant from a gang of thugs (Always the same and even uses the same dialogue which gets annoying)
- Pickpocket someone (Have to listen to a conversation then when finished just walk up behind someone and press pickpocket button!)
- Interrogate someone (punch someone a few times till they tell you something equally pointless and boring)
- Eavesdrop (Go and sit at the nearest bench and press the listen in button!)

And that's pretty much it. You'll be finding yourself doing this for 99% of the game. The only good parts are when you do the main assassination mission but these you'll only be doing 1% of the time and there are only a few to do. On top of all this everything is so easy to do and unrealistic. I love how on the back of the box they say "Use wide range of medieval weapons, and face your enemies in realistic swordfight duels".......Yes well there are 3 weapons to use and sword fights are a joke. It doesn't make a difference if your faced against 1 guard or 20 as only one will attack you at any one time. So you can quite easily take on 300 men or more if it would let you.

All in all the game is tedious and unbelievably repetitive! I have no idea what the people who wrote the positive reviews are talking about. Do not buy and if you do be prepared to sell it or break it! Wouldn't buy it if it was £1!

Some games you get into some you don't.
I couldn't get into this game at all, the graphics are excellent & I loved exploring the medieval village & completing some of the missions but the story just didn't make sense.
Going back & forth in time just got really annoying & in the end I gave up.
Creed 2 comes out soon though, may give that a try,

This entire game feels like one big mini-game. You find yourself repeating the exact same missions over and over after the first 3 levels.

Further to this, the combat system is too simple, the weapons are pretty much all the same, and there is no real advantage to planning your attack; you may as well rush in and kill everyone rather than using stealth.

Add to this the difficulty in the later levels of the game are based on adding more guards, and making them more alert, which slows down the game, but doesn't make it too much harder (honestly though, sometimes you'll be minding your own business walking along and a guard will pick a fight for no discernible reason. This is really annoying when you have to stay out of trouble on some missions (because getting anywhere in stealth mode is REALLY slow).

The "parkour" movement is quite good, and enough to get it up to 2 stars, but not enough to keep you interested.

The whole game seems rushed, a prime example being the flags available for collection, however there's no point in doing it; you get nothing - not even a trophy - for your troubles.

The story that people seem to rave about rarely comes to life and could have been written by a 5 year old (an intelligent 5 year old, but a 5 year old nonetheless).

I dislike not completing games, but even though this one is pretty short, I had a lot of trouble motivating myself to do it. DO NOT BUY.

Top 100 Games Reviewer

I really have mixed feelings writing this review, because I desperately want to slap five stars on this and recommend it to everyone. But I can't, because as much as I like the game it doesn't deserve five stars.

Let's start with the positives. Graphically the game is simply stunning. The scope of the graphics, the detail within them, and the animation that joins them is absolutely first class. They help to create a world that is fully believable and absolutely immersive. Combat is a joy to behold and incredibly satisfying, with a countering system that deserves recognition as one of the best of all time. The free running system (essentially the way you jump from building to building and make your way across the rooftops) is also very well done, and feels natural and highly accomplished. All in all, the graphics and core gameplay are exceptional, and make the game a joy to play.

So what's the problem? As much as other reviewers would attempt to side step or dumb down this point, the game is highly repetitive. By that, I mean that the game is largely split into nine different assassinations, and each of those works exactly the same way. Same side missions. Same things to do. As a result there is effectively nothing new to reveal in the game past the second assassination, and this does make the game drag. I found myself wanting to finish the game for the sake of it by the seventh assassination, and whilst I would recommend finishing it, it is certainly a game that the vast majority of people will not replay after finishing it.

The game is fantastic in so many ways, and the core gameplay is superb. But the problem is that it falls short as a single player experience that keeps you interested from start to finish and feels fresh. If the inevitable sequel can address these concerns, then it will surely be one of the greatest games of this generation. But that is something that we will find out in future. For now, Assassin's Creed is a game worthy of recommendation because it hits the heights in so many areas. And for the knockdown price of £16.99 it is certainly worth a go. But it should have been better.

The graphics are really good, however the game itself is really dull. If he had a gun and a sniper rifle it'd be great

I bought this game having been drawn in by the interesting concept. I enjoyed "Hitman" on the PS2 and thought this game followed in a similar vein. You play the first level or 2 and think it's pretty good. That's where the novelty comes to a screeching halt. All the levels have the same progress structure, so you feel you are doing exactly the same thing for each level. If you have a spare £10 it may be worth a punt if you can put up with a repetitive game. It has some merits ..... but not many.

A lot of people reviewed this game to be boring and repetitive, I think otherwise. This game has a truely fascinating story, excellent graphics and outstanding gameplay. The smoothness and variety of different moves, both when fighting and moving around the city, is very impressive. Before the assassinations it is a bit repetitive doing investigations to find out more about your enemy, but this is realistic and doesn't take very long. Each and every assassination is different and has its own story to tell. The ending is one you wouldn't have expected but one to look forward to.

My only criticism about this game is that the AI aren't very smart, they attack you one at a time even when there's a lot of them. But this makes the game less fustrating and not impossible in big fight scenes.

Overall, would definately recommend getting this game, especially at platinum price, as it is well worth what you pay for. Hope this review helps :)

I bought this game on the day of its release and I still play it. The game is gigantic. The story entralling and the graphics are stunning. I can't wait for the rest of the series.
The only reason I can think of that you currently do not own this game is that you just bought a PS3.
Trust me, at the current price, you will never buy a better game!
