The first MotorStorm wowed fans with its heady formula of brutal, unpredictable off-road racing, festival vibes and stunning Monument Valley desert scenery. Now MotorStorm: Pacific Rift takes you to a solitary tropical paradise in the Pacific Ocean, ready for a whole new take on no-holds-barred racing action through thick swamps, dense jungle, towering peaks and steaming volcanoes.

Not just pretty backdrops to the action, these environments take centre stage in challenging players with everything in Mother Nature's arsenal. Thick mud, tangled undergrowth, swift flowing rivers, choking volcanic clouds and searing lava pools all test the drivers to their limits and beyond. Expect a rich festival of off road racing, along with a host of game modes and rewards. It's brutal, dangerous, relentless, and unpredictable and more than a game - MotorStorm: Pacific Rift is a way of life.

The Island. A brand new radically different location for the festival.

Unpredictable Events. Never the same race twice. Events will take place to change the race on a lap to lap basis.

Split-Screen Play. Play with up to 3 buddies on the same screen.

The Monster Truck. An all-new vehicle class added to the core vehicle selection for a total of 8 different vehicle classes.

Immersive Online Experience. A radical re-look at the whole MotorStorm online experience, focusing on ease of use and breadth of gameplay all while tearing it up in races up to 16 players.

Improved Actions. A new level of control - punch, duck and ram using a new control layout.

Free-Play. Race how you want by creating your own race tickets.

Photo Mode. Snap your greatest victory or your most visceral crashes and share them with the world.

New Rating Systems. It's not all about winning... it's also about how you perform.

Okay, so heres a review of the game. Not the demo the full game in all its glory. I got a review disc early and have been playing it for a day now and am 3/4 to completion, so i think ive earned the right to critisise.
First up are the negatives -
The soundtrack sucks. plain and simple. i liked the first one because of its anarchy and fast driving tunes, they got your aggresion going for the race, but now sony have taken over the soundtrack is more what id call "BACKGROUND MUSIC", its too slow and there arent a great deal of pumping tunes, and so far no custom soundtracks (hopefully added later).
Also there are glitches, but these are rare, (again an update should sort them) such as tearing up a ramp in a bike and suddenly crashing, and everyones car seems to weigh 5 times more than yours, no matter what your in.

But these are small things that can be fixed, and dont take that much away from the gameplay value, cos its stonkingly good!
Th vehicles themselves read of a petrol heads dream garage, including oddities such as the tourist jeeps from jurassic park, a monster truck based on a dinosaur skull, a pikes peak rally racer and even a supersized Tonka Toy!
Speaking of garages, the loading times in this have been dramatically reduced, thanks to the new garage system, which allows you to "favourite" your best car so you can race instantly, no 3d loading screen taking forever, however you can view them if need be by pressing square. Also new is a Driver, which you can choose to represent yourself in your car.
The thing tha really makes this game though is the tracks, and they are brilliant. People who played the demo are in for a surprise at just how well the rain god looks, and thats one of the smaller tracks. sme of the larger ones can take around 2 minutes a lap, and thats flat out! Night and day return, but are preselcted times, but brand new is weather, some of the tracks get a tropical storm now and then, whilst it looks good its also quite tame, i was hoping for near zero visibility for a real callenge! oh well...

So to sumarise the game, id be happy to rate it to any racer fan, as replay value is huge with trophies (new) time attack (8 categories on 16 tracks) split screen and of course online, to prove once more you are a motorstorm God!

                 Fantastic, chaotic racing

i generally stray away from racing games as my driving skills are terrible leading to frustration and ultimate boredom. having recently got a ps3 and seeing the reviews of this i though i'd give it one more chance.......i'm glad i did!! i'ts absolutely fantastic! pure unadultered fun- ok i crash a lot but when it plays and looks as good as this i don't miind. a highly recommended game to all those drivers and non drivers alike.

If you're looking for an arcade racer on the PS3 look no further than
MotorStorm: Pacific Rift. MS:PR is an offroad racer in which you will drive a verity of different vehicles ranging from ATV's to monster trucks across a number of uniquely different courses that offer different routes of travel.

The graphics are overall very impressive, expect to find the odd low res texture if you stray to far off the beaten track but these are unnoticeable as you are whizzing passed them at high speeds thanks to the good use of motion blur. The game also bolsters a good heart thumping soundtrack, although this is pretty negligible as the game allows you to set up your own custom playlists using music off of your Playstation hard drive. The online aspect is very impressive as well allowing you to jump into a race of up to 12 people on any track with any vehicle with a relative lag free experience.

However the game isn't without its flaws, it has a pretty steep learning curve which may frustrate some people later on in the game, especially if they are looking to win a gold medal in every race, but the problem isn't so much about the learning curve but how the game handles it, rather than just your opponents getting faster around the track the AI get overly aggressive, more focused on destroying you than actually finishing the races themselves.

If you can look past these flaws you're left the best arcade racing experience you can get on the Playstation 3 right now, beating out other off-road racing games such as Pure and Baha with relative ease.

                8/10

Ignore the bad reviews... game isn't even available yet!

                | | See all RedDragan's reviews (8)

First of all, forget the bad reviews because people are already slating this game when nobody has played it. Which goes to show that they shouldn't be allowed to produce reviews as this is abuse of the system.

Now I can tell you about the Private Demo that was given out by Sony, and so far the game looks absolutely amazing. It wasn't even 80% complete which meant that with 1/5th of the game yet to be designed they delivered a Demo that looked better than 99% of finish products.

The AI was amazing, read ProjectJAY's review of bad AI... sorry but because you cannot play well enough that is no reason to judge a game bad. The fact is that if youpractice this game you will find the AI is better than in any other racing game. It is challenging and that is why the Motorstorm series is regarded as one of the best racing series in gaming history.

I hope the online is going to be a runaway success like the last Motorstorm, the AI and gfx are already perfect from what has been seen so far and with 1/5th of the game still be touched up it can only get better.

The Demo was 4/5, I expect the improvements to drive this title upto 5/5.

ProjectJAY, do not do reviews if you are just going to abuse the review system.
