 Dissapointed

Being a fan of final fantasy all my life and growing up playing the series, i had hoped this installment would be an excellent game, but was heavily dissapointed .. It's kept little traditional aspects that made the games great, and is so linear it makes the game boring, no sidequests, no towns .. the battle system is a fail in my opinion. I REALLY dont see why they had to change so much from the final fantasy vii system .. To further my dissapointment, there are no limit breaks, or even a classic level up system!! ... For me final fantasy vii was the best in the series, and still remains the same. It is untouchable .. Ever since Square Enix have taken over Squaresoft there is yet to be another good final fantasy game. Its all well and good making the graphics breathtaking, but where is the final fantasy excellence?

 I wasn't a Final Fantasy fan......until now!

This is the first FF game that I have brought and I have to say it is one of the best games I have played this year so far (its gonna take some beating). The graphics are some of the best I have seen on any console, the difference between the CGI cutscences and the in-game engine is minimal, there were countless times when I didn't even now which was which.

Sound is brilliant, from the music to the footsteps of the characters, you really get lost in the FF world, in a good way. I think I have found a new love in videogames and this is it, I'm so glad that I went with my instinct and brought this game because it is an absolute gem. If you have never played the FF series before then I recommend you give this ago because, I'm pretty sure that you will in no way be disappointed, I know I'm not.

On the Limited Edition: The extras that are included with the LE are of a real high quality and a great edition to brilliant game.

I would also strongly recommend the strategy guide with this because some battles can become very difficult, but with the help from the guide it just makes the experience all the more sweeter.

Collectors edition review - Fairly standard

Top 100 Games Reviewer

This is just a review of the special edition contents, will review the game seperately in its own section.

The collectors edition of FFXIII consists of what now seems to be the standard selection of extras, giving you an art book a music cd with a selection of tracks from the game.

The cd has some nice tracks, but only holds a few pieces of a huge selection of tracks, so its a shame they could not add a few more to the selection.

The artbook is fairly standard. Its mostly comprised of stills taken directly from the game itself, there are only a few, if any pieces of actual artwork.

The other items that come with it are ok. A trio of art card, each one is double-sided, giving you a seperate image of the main cast and their summons. A nice touch, though I was surprised that we didnt get these in the art-book itself.

Along with these, you get a 'decal', basically a sticker. Its based on the mark that the main cast have on their body.

Overall, the items if the collectors edition a fairly standard. They are good, but not great. If you like some extras, im sure this will be for you.

 Amazing

Despite of the fact that some "old school" fans dislike this game, I love it. I'm not from the time of FF VII tho, but I started to follow the saga on the 10th. With this said, I love this game so much.

Final Fantasy XIII, for me it's one of the best games ever! I loved the experience, the gameplay, the graphics and the boss fights (although they might be extremely difficult, even in Normal).

The story is beautiful and had an amazing plot twist... which I loved. And is countered with the fact that it's linear.

The soundtrack is stunning and characters where extremely well built. Their emotions and back stories.

--- The collectors edition is pretty "boooo"... nothing special about it. Just an artbook, some cards, a sticker and a soundtrack cd. ---
