The Lord of the Rings: War In The North is an epic multiplayer action/RPG video game based on the renowned stories by J.R.R. Tolkien. Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment holds the rights to develop video games based on both the literary and motion picture content from The Lord of the Rings, allowing Snowblind to explore original and familiar narrative elements in more than 12 areas, of which only three have been seen in the films.

Breaking new ground as the first mature-rated LOTR video game, The Lord of the Rings: War In The North evolves the RPG genre through innovative online, interdependent co-op play for up to three players who form their own Fellowship and engage in brutal combat.

Exploring previously unseen lands, story elements and characters as well as elements familiar from past feature films, gamers experience extensive character customization and development, expansive co-op gameplay options and upgradeable weapons, skills and special abilities. Players must play together or perish as they work to defeat Sauron's forces in the North.
  • Suitable for 18 years and over. Not for sale to persons under age 18. By purchasing this product, you declare that you are 18 years of age and over.

  • Create your own Fellowship: Together, players and their friends will experience an epic, story-based adventure through vast Middle-earth to experience storylines and characters going beyond what has been seen in the feature films and previous games
  • Play as a team or perish! Social play is redefined through groundbreaking online, interdependent co-op gameplay which enables three different gamers to play as a complementary group where individual skills enhance the success of each team member
  • Brutal gameplay: The Lord of the Rings: War in the North is the first M-rated The Lord of the Rings game on the market, authentically derived from The Lord of the Rings lore and delivering on action RPG principles
  • Intricate character customization from an RPG powerhouse - Players choose from three playable races: Human, Elf or Dwarf. Extensive customization allows for meaningful and rewarding RPG gameplay including established loot and reward systems. Snowblind's history and credibility as an action/RPG gameplay studio makes them the perfect choice for creating an epic LOTR RPG
  • Original social storyline: Players will experience an original storyline created especially for the social, collaborative three-player experience established within J.R.R. Tolkien's lore and approved by the J.R.R. Tolkien estate
  • Challenge missions: Special missions consist of defensive positioning and group raids for up to 3 players, built especially for co-op challenges and not tied to the story

Your first impression of the game is good. Nice graphics, reasonable music, great multi-player options. The storyline is basic and linear - but it is good enough for it not to detract from the overall game experience.
Once you play the game for any length of time you will find yourself put into one of three camps:
*those who can play error free
*those who can play but with some major errors
*those who cannot play at all due to the severity of the game breaking errors.

The people who can play error free appear to be few and far between - with the majority having problems so severe that they cannot finish the game. There are a few workarounds for some of the errors, involving joining online games, swapping characters, reloading multiple times, etc. But in this day and age who wants to have to do that? In the ultra competitive console game market a developer should get the game right first time.
The producers whilst initially open to players about there being a fix coming have gone silent for quite some time - leaving many people speculating that WB Games are not going to bother fixing it at all.
This looks like a clear case of rushing an unfinished product out in time for christmas.

My advice to you - do not buy this game yet. Wait 6 months first to see if a fix is released. If it is then you will have a great time. If not, then at least you haven't wasted a lot of money buying something that is broken.

If your a LOTR fan don't hesitate

You have 3 playable characters, A human, and Elf and a dwarve (of course) I played through the game 3 times, once as each character and thoroughly enjoyed them all, There are plenty of side quests and items to collect so you won't get bored! Under rated title.

 Co-op pointless

Brilliant one player game but it is nigh on impossable to save with any consistancy when playing as a two player co-op. This is due to a software glitch and has made what should have been a great Birthday gift for my other half a waste of money. Such a shame as the gameplay is great.

Fantastic. I loved every moment of this game, the story is intense. The graphics are awesome! Having completed the game, I was pleased to see I could replay it on a harder difficulty. Way better than the Trilogy games! Really hoping for a sequel... War in the South? (Haha!)
