Powered by Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare technology, Call of Duty: World at War brings an uncensored edge to combat, as soldiers face the most harrowing and climatic European and Pacific battles in which an enemy, who knows no surrender and no retreat, will fight to the last breath, unleashing an arsenal of lethal surprising tactics. Peril and danger lurk throughout the battlefield as players combat the unknown risk of the new chaos of battle.

From the remains of Russia and the ruins of Berlin, to the beach and jungles of the deadly Pacific Theatre, the volatile action takes on added depth as players employ new features that previously were only available in multiplayer, including perks, rankings and online stats in up to full four-player co-operative gameplay. New infantry and vehicle-based weapons, like the potent flamethrower, bring the battlefield ablaze.

Final Battles: Call of Duty: World at War forces players to survive the final climactic days of a world at war to thwart the advance of Axis powers on multiple fronts from Europe to the Pacific - delivering the hallmark Call of Duty cinematic intensity on a worldwide scale. Play as a U.S. Marine or Russian conscript across a variety of European and Pacific infantry, vehicle and airborne missions.

Co-Op Campaign Mode: "No One Fights Alone" takes on new meaning as players can complete the entire single-player campaign with up to four players online or two players via split-screen (both online and offline). Strategising with others provides gameplay diversity, replayability and engagement.

Addictive Multiplayer: Call of Duty: World at War continues the addictive and leading class-based multiplayer action. The addition of vehicles to the highly-successful Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare multiplayer that already includes persistent experience, player rankings, upgradeable weapons, squad-based gameplay, map scripting, customisable classes and perks, brings a new dimension to Call of Duty online warfare.

Unprecedented WWII Cinematic Quality: Utilising the jaw-dropping and revolutionary Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare engine, Call of Duty: World at War delivers an unprecedented level of visual and cinematic effects to WWII. Highly-detailed character models, self-shadowing, environmental lighting and amazing special effects up the WWII authenticity to new heights. Depth of field, rim-lighting and texture-streaming technology bring the adrenaline-pumping combat to life. Physics-enabled battlefields and destructible cover immerse players into the harrowing and dynamic combat.

Well lets start this review by explaining my situation, before pre ordering this game i did alot of background research and looking at other reviews from people who had the beta keys. Many people said well its so much like call of duty 4 and its rubbish because this that and the other.

Well i said SCREW THOSE COMMENTS IM GOING TO TRY IT MYSELF.

Anyway i pre ordered the game and it was here day before release and i was playing it for a good 4 hours as i only got in from work at 6 : [

First off the starting scene is very very good and you can tell straight away that activision had something to do with it, Graphically the game is very very high and like most games out there you will see this is one of few great graphics games out there.

Next i noticed the amount of attention to detail the game had such as the little parts of ash on ciggerettes and cigars etc

The menus are well presented and look better with a quicker response time.

Campaign mode is also very very good, if any of you have seen the film behind enemy line and everyone knows how good that was you will notice that when you play as the russians there is an extract there from the film that you play, this is also a very similar style level to "All Ghilllied Up"

Sounds are very good and the music sounds like something from "We Were Soliders"

Overall this game is a 5 star for me as its has kept its online ethos.

The game engine that was used in call of duty 4 has been passed forward to call of duty world at war. Looking at the back of the box Treyarch wasnt the only company who made it. Activision also were one of the other companies who played a large part in the development of this game.

Although i much prefer using the newer edition guns like in Call Of Duty 4 i still like the ones in call of duty 5.

      Flamethrowers are amazing!!!!!!!!!!!

Shadowing and environmental details are pin sharp and overall very impressive.

Many people still say i will wait for cod 6 and leave this behind.

YOU WILL BE WASTING YOUR TIME.

If your like me and many im sure are you have now played call of duty 4 for a year now, you know every camp spot, spray point, best perk, gun and claymore position. TRY SOMETHING NEW this is well worth the buy.

I enjoy this so much already and i havent had it more than two days.

Thank you Play and thank you Treyarch / Activision.

      Hope this review helped

Why are people rating this so low?

For whoever thinks this is exactly the same as cod4 is terribly wrong. It is still the basic cod4 game play style but so much better and all the annoying thinks from cod4 have been tweaked. I have the beta and its amazing. Mankin for example Very dark and theres nothing better than creeping through the water sticking to the bushes with a silenced M1 garand and picking people off with nice shots to the head. Sure its WW2 but after u get used to it it doesnt feel like it that much the guns are excellent and most of the perks are still there for example bouncing bettys these are basically clamores but so much more deadly and scary and theres nothing better than planting one and watching a enemy walk straight into it and blow off there arms and legs. Honestly if u liked cod4 i can almost guarantee u will like this so much fun like 7 kill streak attack dogs? or blowing a perfect tank shell into someone and blow them into nice little pieces Brilliant so please dont listen to all of these "just like cod4 but worse since its ww2" ect i would say once this game gets going it will beat cod4 into the ground

Thinking back when it was a disappointment for COD5 to be World War II and not Modern Warfare seems a little blinded now ,as so far this game if far from a disappointment.
At first the guns seem pretty hard to use with the iron sights and so I started to wonder if the attachments would be similar to COD4 and then I gained the sight with a glass rim and crosshairs (equivalent to the red dot sight) so I was happy. As far as I can tell a lot of the other attahcments are similar as well in terms of 'supressors, silencers etc and these are gianed in the same way by completing Marksman challanges as in COD4.

A little info on the Kill Streeks:
3 = A recon plane (identical to UAV in COD4)
5 = Artilery, but I found this a bit useless becuase with the 5 or so I got, I didnt kill a single person, maybe it was just me (v similar to airstrikes in COD4)
7 = The Dogs. These are crazy beasts. They just run around killing people. They can be shot but not easy as they come from everywhere and are fast.

The killcams are there again and the perks work in a similar way with the likes of juggernaught, iron lungs, deep impact etc all stil there. The differnece is that there are also ones to protect you, ie from grenades and also vehicle specific ones ie greasy turrets that allow the gun turrets to turn quicker for example.

This is based on a few hours of play but so far I would say that if you were/are a fan of COD4 like myself I think you will really enjoy this game as well.

       Re: whats the point?

First of all, the point is that this is Call of Duty 5: World at War. Now, one major issue that Treyarch wanted this to be run on COD4 engine so that COD4 players will buy COD5 for sure and will continue their COD 4 experience in the 5th. Although I enjoyed playing Modern Warfare more than I think that I am going to enjoy this one, I still think that it would be great that the gameplay is going to be similar. You said, "you wont find anything different so dont go looking for a fresh experience". I don't agree as I think that this game is going to be an improvement on COD4 and everyone knows that COD4 is amazing ..

Not worth the disc it's put on in my opinion. I really enjoyed COD 4 and all of it's features, but this one is just awfull. I loved everything about the multiplayer on COD 4. When I bought this game it was a major dissapointment. The multiplayer is full of bugs, the ranking system is full of bugs. The weapons are overpowered, the perks are overpowered. I spent £40 on this game out of my christmas money and frankly it was a huge mistake. COD4 was brilliant, but this is just crap.
