I dont want to compare BBC2 to MW2 and MAG but the comparisons are inevitable so forgive me when they are made. I will admit my colours are firmly nailed to the BBC2 banner.
The thing I love about BBC2 is that it highlights good teamwork and rewards it. I dont get that impression from MW2. I think DICE and UBISOFT have made the right moves in trying design a community that is built on people helping each other rather than everyone for themselves. The teamwork aspect is highlighted by one feature that MW2 doesnt have - vehicles with multiple seats. There is nothing better than jumping in a chopper as the fourth person and youre an engineer which means youre not just a passenger. You can pull out your trusty rattle-gun and repair the chopper as it flies around and you get reward points for your trouble. Pretty much the only time you are a passenger in a vehicle is on a quad bike or sea-doo and then youre just catching a ride into the battle.
And what a battle!!!
The standout in this game is the sound. The crack thump of a round wizzing past your head the huge explosions which more often than not are bringing down buildings. Ive been very close to explosions as an engineer in the army and the only thing you arent getting from the great sound in this game is the wind being knocked out of you. The talk of explosions beings me to something else MW2 doesnt have; DESTRUCTION. How many times have you been playing MW2 and a sniper is barricaded in a house with great fields of fire and you cant do anything about it just get shot in the head. In BBC2 you bring the house down around him!!! I think the destructible environment is a huge advantage over MW2. MAG tried it but only went part way making objective targets destructible. I liken it to the rise of racing games with destructible cars like GRID DIRT2 and NEED FOR SPEED: SHIFT. The incumbent in that arena was Gran Turismo (no destruction) as COD (no destruction) is in this arena. GT5 developers have delayed release to include full vehicle destruction. I think we will see the same happen in the next iteration of Modern Warfare. If not they stand to lose even more ground to the likes of BBC2.
The maps are huge and well designed. They look beautiful and varied. If you like sniping you finally have a realistic distant to shoot over. Not only that but the teamwork aspect rises to the top here as well; spotting. Snipers in real life arent just there to shoot guys from a mile away they are recon. Spotting targets for others to take out. I think the best thing about the maps is that you dont just want to play the same class on every map. Some are good for sniping others are full of vehicle which is good for engineers.
The low point is the single player mode. It is a little glitchy in places and the story doesnt always flow well but the one liners made me laugh. The campaign doesnt really prepare you for the multi player mode as it doesnt teach you how to do all the things that you can do in multi player. But thats half the fun. Jumping into your first chopper taking off and immediately going straight backwards out of the field of play. Frustrating but fun. Its a challenge to fly the choppers which is what you want out of a game. A challenge.
I think the graphics are close to being on par with those of MW2. The weapon physics are great and to my knowledge very realistic. The gadgets and perks are well thought out and not just thrown-in to give you an advantage for having reached a high level.
Overall I really enjoyed the single player and Im loving the multi player. For me the teamwork - sound effects - vehicles and DESTRUCTION are what sets it apart and above the others.
i'm blown away by this game. MW2 seems so basic and sterile now i've played this. The destruction, sound and sense of being in a proper battle have really impressed me. If only PS3 owners actually used headsets to aid teamwork. Even so, you still get a good vibe from this game. Medics heal you, Assault give you ammo and engineers repair your vehicles. In combat, you have to consider the gun your using as recoil and distance play a much bigger part here compared to COD so be warned this is not an arcade FPS but it is the richer experience out of the two.
I have been playing this Beta for a few weeks now and even at this early stage it is so much fun to play ,unfortunately the BETA is mostly limited to infantry/ Tanks/ quad bikes/ humvees/ and UAV'S at the moment as the full vehicle roster consists of so much more,EG apache gunships/ BlackHawks/ Speed boats/ Armoured cars/ anti aircraft vehcles/ more tanks.
But that dont stop it from already being the best multiplayer experiance on any console ive had to date & ive played almost all the best FPS games around even some of the past battlfeild games on the pc and this does not dissapoint . Most of the cod players that played this said that they find mw2 bland on their return to it after playing BFBC2 on the beta forums and i have to agree having played that professionally in a clan THIS is such a better game in all aspects.
Teamwork ,good objectives, great building destruction, awesome awards and unlocks, and massive maps with up to 24 players online on ( DEDICATED SERVERS ) not a crappy p2p system
where the host has an unfair advantage in regards of 0 lag like mw2.
Get a good team in this and its extremely gratifying playing tacticaly combine a good driver and a good gunner in a vehicle and you can reap massive destruction racking up kills leveling buildings on ememy players.
MINI BETA REVIEW
Sound - 9.5
GAMEPLAY - 10
GRAPHICS 9.5
MULTIPLAYER - 10
This is the only game ive ever considerd picking up for more than 1 platform EG ,PC & PS3 but i find the experiance better than killzone 2 on my ps3 and very close to what made the original PC versions so great in the first place.
Preorder now you wont be le tdown
Having played and owned all the COD games, in my mind BFBC2 is significantly better than COD on all aspects. The graphics are fantastic and easily better than both MW2 and Black ops. The detail level when you are using sniper sights etc are excellent, and the care and attention that has gone into making this an outstanding package are there to be seen,
BFBC2 has the most solid singleplayer of any of the recent FPS offerings and provides hours of challenging campaign. The multiplayer for me is secondary to the excellent single player, but is a much more fun and tactical experience than MW2. The fact that everything is destructible makes for some very challenging map changes!
BFBC2 is also well supported with free map packs available and now the Vietnam experience (which I havent tried yet), keeping interest alive for the gamer.
All in, I would say this is the best FPS out there, and at the prices you can get it for now, it is an absolute steal. Get it, and watch the hours zip by!
I'd never experienced a FPS before, this is my first and I'm hooked. Marvellous in every respect.
