Gran Turismo 5

This is one if the worst games I've ever played racing or otherwise. It features tons of content which makes it feel like a must buy, but you'd be better off with almost any other racer. Here are some off the reasons not to get suckered. Only a fifth of the car models are new. The ones that are new look great but the rest look extremely dated. Track graphics are sterile and of intermittent quality too. The AI is non existent - any attempt to drive 'properly' is ruined by cars ramming into you and refusing to concede the racing line even though you've legitimately out manuevered them, slowing you both down pointlessly. There are tons of rough edges too. For a game that took this long to make it's ridiculous to have voice over drowned out by engine noise, an engine noise that drones on at the same pitch during all the post match menus.
But the completely unforgivable thing are the menus. I've had to wait up to five minutes for the main menu to load after a race (usually nearer one minute). Most of the menus take 30 seconds to load and there are a ton of menus. Restarting a license test involves around six menus.
The game doesn't look that great for the most part as most of the assets are copied from previous games. The driving is fine but the AI is horrible. The loading and menus make it almost unplayable.
Only buy if you've already got forza3, hot pursuit etc and have to have everything. (like me sadly.)

Firstly before i begin let me say i have never waited so long for a game to be installed 1 hour 20 minutes then 10 minutes to update!!!! let me start by saying this has been well awaited with 4 years under polyphony digital belt they have really come through with a well trimmed and well presented driving simulation so for anyone who is new to the series its nothing like need for speed or burnout this is a driving simulation with realistic handling and weight issues along with the norm licences to open up new cars and new special features. The graphics are stunning with loads to offer plus a soundtrack that can be chosen to anyones taste :) they even have RUSKO!! (for any of the dubstep heads). there is over 300 plus hours of game play here with an added online play so you can race and trade cars with your friends. i have only played this game for a few hours but i am hooked and there is so much versatility here that it will have something to offer everyone. a well recomended and well awaited game.

When first purchasing this game, I couldn't wait to have a go, especially for what had taken so long to release. After waiting ages to install and then update, started a quick arcade game and thought, "hmmm ... is that it..?"

A few weeks later, I'd forgotten about the hype and decided to sit down and start going through the levels. After few hours and 5/6 levels in, this is when the game starts to shine and you really start to appreciate the amount of work that has gone into this game. The physics and handling of each and every car is simply superb. Upgrading the cars engine, handling and transmission is noticeable with every single adjustment. If you finish 2nd and don't have enough power to take 1st, then upgrade the engine, change tyres or exhaust until you can take 1st. With a GT force steering wheel, it is quite simply the best gaming experience you will ever have at home. This is as close to the real thing you will find, the repsonse on the feedback is amazing, especially when you spin out or loose control.

The graphics are excellent, sharp and clear, people saying they are like ps2 are not being realistic. Music & menu system plus loading times are fine, don't seem to have a problem with it. Yes, there are a couple of awkward menu functions, like going back a few levels to tune up the car, but its nothing as bad as 'server not responding' and your game is disconnected, like some games (COD).

The negative reviews could be from people who are either young or have never driven a car, because if they had, they would appreciate how realistic the physics of the game are. If you want to enjoy spinning out a Ferrari onto a grass verge then powering out of the skid, throwing a Toyota MR2 round the bends or racing a hot hatch over gravel and tarmac.. then this game is for you.

All in all, if you have the time to sit down with a force feedback wheel and forget all the hype, then you'll love this game, it's highly addictive and thoroughly enjoyable.

EDIT: It depends what view you use when playing this game. With the speedo and rev counter view the game is faster and realistic. When playing with car view, it's dull and boring...and pretty much rubbish.

I've been trying to fool myself into liking this game and looking at the positive aspects but it is such a let down.

Positives +

+ Challenges and Licenses are good fun and will keep you playing, trying to beat times.
+ Premium cars into photo mode look amazing.

Negatives -

- Some of the standard cars look terrible, like they have been ripped out of GT3 and GT4.
- Lack of racing events.(Played for about 8 hours and almost finished half of the A-Spec events)
- B-Spec mode, why would you want to watch the AI race?
- Jaggy/Glitchy graphics are really obvious and annoying, a real eye sore.
- No feel of the car, not much response vibration wise through the controller.
- Used Car Lot, You can save up for a car but then never find it, because it will never appear in the used car lot. 800 cars and you could spend ages looking for one.
- Damage, Wait until level 40? why, there is no need for this. Also damage doesn't really compare to GRID or even Forza 3.
- Game freezes and crashes every so often, meaning you have to sit through silly loading times again.
- AI is useless and will not move away from the racing line, meaning the AI pits you every so often.
- Hardly any customization, You can't even change the alloys of a standard car.

If you are looking for a fun game, play NFS: Hot Pursuit. It is very enjoyable.

So many limitations in this game, and its such a shame. Only the second time I will sell a game, only a week after purchase.
