         Good game!

I've just got the game from America and after flying back from my hols with it i couldn't wait to give it a try! The first thing i found was that the Photo Game Face is not as easy to use as they say!! After I'd got over that hurdle into the game play. It is a very good game! The shot confidence idea is a pain but adds a little bit of difficulty at times when you think your getting there! Its a definite improvement on last years effort gameplay wise and graphically its brilliant. It looks like its going to be a long game with the Fed-Ex Cup and the full PGA Tour seasons again so I'm off to continue with my golf. My next trip is a round online!!!

         The best golf sim around

It really makes me laugh that a person can say "DON'T BUY THIS GAME THE ON-LINE DOESN'T WORK" First of all, any server can experience problems from traffic amount, secondly check YOUR SET UP it may be your firewall that's stopping you. I have managed to get on line, granted there is times when it is difficult but like I have said "any server can experience problems from traffic amount"

Anyone who says that the game face feature doesn't work, well all I can say is that you must be doing something wrong. If you follow these steps and read the on screen instructions CAREFULLY then it will work.

1: Make sure the picture is took from a distance of 3 feet.
2: The picture size HAS GOT TO BE 1024 x 768, otherwise it will not work.
3: There is times when the EAWORLD.com server is inundated and as such you may experience difficulties, but you will eventually get connected. I have got my picture on and the likeness is excellent (the girlfriend says its an excellent resemblance)

        Right now the game.

First of all, this has to be one of the best golf sims around at this present time, the graphics are SUPERB, I defy anyone not be be impressed by the level of detail, especially on Tiger Woods face, the facial expressions he pulls, his manor isms etc are spot on.

The sound in the game is also amazing, you can here woodpeckers banging away on the trees, there is also aircraft flying around as well.

I have heard people comment saying "its way too hard to hit a good shot" well what do you expect it is a golf sim. Basically its like the real game "practise makes perfect" I think that the realism of the game is spot on, from the various shot types that allow you to add spin to the ball, so as to make the ball either roll further on of to spin the ball back, for example if you have overshot the hole and want to spin the ball back to closer to the hole.

If you want a really good golf sim that is as near to the real thing, then buy this; if you want an easy to play golf game that lacks realism; then this game might not be for you.

If the demo is anything to go by...

I downloaded the demo off the American store and I have to say I was impressed. First off, there are two ways to swing the club; the analogue stick where you pull the left stick back and push it forward as straight as you can and also with a click of R3 you can change it to the good old fashioned 3-click system. First click starts the bar; second click sets the power and third click sets the accuracy. This way is certainly easier to master than the analogue stick method. There are lots of different shot types too, for example if you are chipping on to the green you can use, say, a pitching wedge but you can set the type i.e. punch shot or chip shot. Also when you have addressed the ball you can move the right analogue stick in order to set what angle the club face hits the ball; so you can get a flat face which will add top spin etc.

The graphics are pretty decent and in the final version of the game you can add a very lifelike version of yourself in to the game which seemingly is harder than it sounds. Tiger Woods' facial expressions are very good and the grass is very detailed, especially when playing in HD. The only issue with the graphics is that the crowd look kind of plain but this is made up for the fact that when you hit a ball astray and it goes into the crowd, they duck out of the way but sometimes some dozy person can get hit and they clutch their side in pain as a searing 320 yard drive hits them straight in the midriff. Nice touch

        Overall, a very good game

I am a big fan of this franchise and although the changes are minor I still think it enhances the gameplay. This game looks and sound superb on the PS3, if you love golf games then you will definetely love this.

         Avoid this and buy 2009

        | | See all Weaselchops's reviews (19)

Ive been a big fan of the pga series since the beginning so i was really dissapointed after i bought this as one of my first games on the ps3. Graphicly theres hardly any difference to the ps2 releases and its further let down by being no where near as playable. This makes for frustrating gameplay and you begin to miss what made the previous releases made so much fun. Needless to say i sold this game on. Ive just played pga 2009 and its brilliant!, they seem to have steared clear of what made this version so naff and gone back to the playability of the early versions, in addition graphics are 100% better and theres a really handy tool to tune up your clubs to suit your own style of play.
Avoid this and spend the extra dosh on the new one!
