I've played a lot of sonic games if not all and this has to be the worst.
The game starts off ok and has some interesting ideas offering 3 characters to play with Sonic at first but you soon unlock Shadow and the new Sliver each with their own stories to play through and abilities to learn, Sonic is more or less as he has always been running at high speed jumping at everything in sight, with Shadow you can ride around in vehicles when available, and sliver can use psychic powers to pick up boulders, vehicles etc then hurl them at the enemy.
The adventure side of the game where you get to walk around towns/ cities and various landscapes you can talk to the local residents some of which will offer various tasks that you can complete to get bonuses. These tasks can be hit and miss on the irritating scale some aren't bad but some are just plain annoying.
The graphics on the characters aren't bad and the cut scene at the beginning of the game is really nice what lets the games graphics down is the backgrounds and scenery which look as though they have been ported across from the PS2
What really lets the game down though is the frame rate, you move that fast the landscapes can't keep up with your characters which causes you to miss what should be easy jumps to make mind the camera doesn't help the situation either in fact its these reasons that make the game near enough unplayable it's that frustrating. It's the reason I stopped playing.
Although I stopped playing the game I did quite far with each of the characters and did get some little enjoyment out of it.... I mean little. The game would have been much better if they had taken the time to work out the problems but instead they just rushed it to the shelves so it looked as though the PS3 had more to offer when it was realised.
If our a diehard sonic fan and decide you want this game then wait for the next play sale or look for it 2nd hand as I did because with the little fun you will have with the game it's not worth the full retail price
Fair play to the other reviewees - they actually spent time on their reviews. Im trying to recoup the waste of life I spent on Sonic. Quite possibly the worst game I have ever had the misfortune of playing. DONT BUY THIS.
I played the old sonics on the sega. The childhood memories of golden supersonic and the original Dr Robotnik as it was then. But this just ruins the whole sonic series. As has been mentioned already, glitches galore with camera angles and annoying cut scenes. The limited gameplay you get from this isnt what the trailer shows. Graphics are good however, but thats pretty much it. It doesnt live up to its predessors. A poor comeback. Bit of advise, stick to the old arcade type 2D across screen style. It made the game, it will keep the game a favourite. This just gives sonic a bad name!!!
I recently played sonic the hedgehog, hoping that it would live up to the hours of fun I had as a young gamer, but I was thoroughly disappointed. The gameplay is poor at best and the game is full of unavoidable glitches. For example, I was watching sonic run along a stretch of land, which i had no control over, and he is suddenly flying into the sea. Also the camera angle completely ruins the sections of the game that require skill and precision. I was very disappointed with the graphics, which barley surpassed the Dreamcast equvalent of Sonic. on the whole, Sonic for the PS3 is very poor and i personally preferred the old 2D side scrolling adventures, which had no gameplay or graphics glitches at all.
I have wasted enough of my time playing this game, so I am only going to say, DO NOT BUY THIS GAME, IT IS RUBBISH
