Metal Gear Solid 4 pushes the boundries of graphics, storytelling and gameplay. It's one game that shouldn't be passed for those that are wanting a excellent story, unprecedented graphics and excellent game mechanics.

The story involves the legendary hero "Solid Snake" as he attempts to complete his final mission and stop his brother "Liquid" from world domination. If I go on, I'll ruin some interesting plot points.

The graphics for MGS4 are the best I have ever seen in any videogame to date, added with voice acting and motion capture to bring life to the characters during the cutscenes, makes the game more cinematic.

The gameplay itself is excellent in its own right as the control mechanics of Snake have been vastly improved from the previous MGS titles. The aiming of weapons can be selected from over-the-shoulder (Gears of War style) or FPS mode (Call of Duty 4 style), depending on the preference of the user.

The game itself has some fun set-pieces whether its taking on Gekko Gear or riding a motorcycle which add up in the entertainment section.

The game also comes complete with Metal Gear Online (MGO). This is the franchise's multiplayer game where players can customise their character's look and skills and take them on the field of battlefield. The game expands on CoD4's XP and Perk system in that when you gain experience in a selected attribute, your skill will improve. E.g. Assault Rifles allow less recoil and faster reloading.

The only downside to the game is that as it is Snake's final mission; there's a heavy emphasis on cutscenes, which do tend to prolong the experience of playing MGS4. As a result of this, you have the ability to skip the cutscenes and progress straight to the game itself, unlike some games where you are forced to watch the cutscenes like 'Brothers In Arms: Hell's Highway'

With a game like MGS4, it should be savoured rather than rushed through. Fans of the series (like me) will throughly enjoy this game and find closure with some plot points from the previous MGS games. For those that aren't huge fans or those that are new to the series may be put off by its heavy emphasis on cutscenes.

I, however, recommend playing this game for those that like to explore, find easter eggs or for those that like to see excellent film-like quality in the cutscenes in terms of graphics, voice acting and motion capture.

But the story is insane and the FMV is every where. Move up a street, cut scene, go round a corner, cut scene, load you gun, cut scene.

And the cut scenes just don't make sense. Typical Manga rubbish, and why do all the women have large breasts??

The makers of this game fancy them selves as movie makers, me thinks.

Oh, and why are we subjected to 8 minutes of smoking by the lead character during loading? Plus every level has to install, which is another 4 minutes of smoking. And if your on one episode and someone else using your PS3 is on another episode, you have to install each episode to play EVERYTIME you switch between players. Another 4 minutes of smoking.
