Customer rating: 5 out of 5 stars Great Metal Gear

This game adds on to the already great series, I have played all Metal Gears and this serves up everything you expect with the addition of fantastic graphics. Although these games have always been more about stealth and not really a FPS, but you can still opt to go all guns blazing but the enemies will keep coming while the alarm is set off

Personally I did not like the PSP Metal Gear, but that was down to the controls (with one analog you can't blame the game) this however has controls which are simple and logical.

The Storyline (i.e. Cutscenes) continue where Metal Gear Solid 2 left off with some information from MGS3 used. Plus it also get very nostalgic towards the end, which I thought was a nice touch.

All in all a fantastic game, anyone who thinks otherwise just didnt relise the game they were buying. If you want a straight forward shooter buy COD4/5

I bought this game thinking it would be really good thanks to reviews and trailers. When i finally got it i was stunned in how rubbish it really was. I played a couple of levels and i just could not get into it. Its not a typical fps because it is more based on stealth where you have to be patient and it takes forever for anything interesting to happen. If you like stealth style games and can afford to wait hours upon hours for anything to happen then this is for you but if you like all out action like i do, do not buy this

I am new to the serious (well played abit of snake eater), but this game was exceptional, the graphics were great, the gameplay also and it just keeps on getting better and better! The screen shots are long and may drag the game on at first, but just stick with it and find yourself thinking how to defeat the next bad lady!!! When you should be concentrating on something else, a must!!!!

Customer rating: 5 out of 5 stars An essential PS3 experience.

This game is a work of art. It looks and plays phenomenal. The game features multiple ways to get through each level and can be played first person or third person. The story is more gripping than most hollywood features and should easily be credited as Game Of The Year.

However, if you don't like cut-scenes, or are under the age restriction, you might not like it. For everyone else, play it! You won't regret it.

This is already my favourite game of all time.

I just finished the game and all i can say is that it couldn't be better! The storyline is propably better than most of the new films in theater, graphics are impressive and online mode is not bad either!
the only thing that i didnt like was the game ending! Can't wait for another great title to follow!

Got MGS4 on day of realease and of course I was looking forward to it.
The game starts of really well and Graphics and sounds just are the best I have seen yet on the PS3. I thought Act 1-3 were really interesting offering a balance of great gameplay and cut-scences but Im afraid thats were I felt the game went down hill. I have never sat in front of my TV, playing, or should I say watching rather than playing a game. Why so many boring flashy Cut-scences? U can tell so much effort was put into them rather than keeping the gameplay alive.

I thought the end of level bosses were just a clone of eachother. Manage to kill them and then out pops a big breasted and butt manga style girl walking towards you like a zombie.
Come on!! how tacky and somewhat pompous it all became.
Another point why so many fancy artillerlies?
Not once do I recall having to use them all. All you need is just a sniper gun and the game is done. Enemies are sitting ducks. It was that easy.
Maybe they could of offered some real challenging objectives. It was from A to B sort of game. Not much to do.
I thought the game was going to offer some means of action and I know its a espionage game but I compare this to MGS1 and im afraid the gameplay is not as exciting and facepace as this. I loved the first and that was what 10 years ago [circa]
Visually and sound wise it is amazing but with little gameplay and ridiculously annoying and dragging cut-scences
I say that MGS4 is over rated.

Now I was hoping the online could do some justice. At first I was enjoying playing it but then It got repetitve. Characters are way to slow and aiming is quite hard. Again It made one resort to Snipering which is fun for a while. Game modes where chaotic. Not very easy to get into.
I even resorted to buy the gamepack for 10 quid. Mistake!!

I know a lot of people will disagree becuase u see a 3 start rather than a over-rated over-used 5 star.
Like someone said its like marmite u either love it or hate but i say im in between and was disappointed with this should I say Anime DVD.

Incredible game, graphics are are getting to a close to reality standard with this game. Sound is incredibly smooth, it is at a blu-ray movie standard.......get this game if you like thrilling fast action
Shoot-em-ups, 10-10 very good standard has been set for ps3 games.

I really don't know whether to rave about this game or criticise its flaws. I very nearly traded it in half way through mission 3 but I am more than glad I didn't. There is so much in the game to blow you away but there was so much that left me frustrated and more than a little dissatisfied. I'm new to the MGS series so maybe that's my problem; I don't know the characters, their history, the plot lines and nor do I really care.

So where to begin; the graphics really are top-notch. Flawless. The cutscenes are like short movies with great camera work and attention to detail. I love the effects where things hit the 'camera'- blood, water, ice etc and the sound is equally impressive in the cut scenes and during gameplay. It really is cinematic stuff and I know it explains the story but this is a game-do they really need to be so long? I decided to time the gap between ending mission 2 and starting mission 3; 37 minutes! Thirty seven!

So onto some bad, beyond the length of the cutscenes; mission 1 despite being in the middle of a middle east battle was a bit lacklustre. Mission 2 a bit unimaginitive, apart from the boss battle which I thought got the ball rolling, but then mission 3 is plain ridiculous! Walking around European back streets with a mask on in a trench coat like something out of 'Allo 'allo! The mission was a farce I thought and stood out as totally not in keeping with the rest of the game...until you mount a motorcycle and the level springs to life. And again, the boss battle is superb.

Thankfully I persevered becasue mission 4 was flawless from beginning to end; the effects of the blizzard was really effective, combined with an even tougher boss battle in Crying Wolf. It culminated in the most frantic, jaw dropping, mind blowing gun fight with Ocelot mounted in a machine. But then just when you flaw him he sails off and you sit through another half hour briefing before mission 5.

To sum up it is a superb game with the most immense climactic final mission; I'm still stuck on Screaming Mantis, but the cut scenes stagger the action and interrupt the flow of the game and the first half of the game really did leave me wondering what the fuss was about. I stuck at it and found out. Do the same. You won't be disappointed. The first 3 missions are almost 3* but 4 and 5 definitely warrant the full 5*
