At last. Reasonably priced games for PS3. Thankyou play.com. After going to high street stores and seeing them try to charge me £40 + for a game I have not bought one single game since I got my Ps3.I have watched loads of movies on it and played the two I got with it to death but now I will be buying this game. Great demo and nice gameplay/graphics and all at a very good price. The £32.99 has decided me on def buying it. Note to games publishers - if you set your prices realistic like this we can then afford to BUY your games. But again - a thanks to play.com for AGAIN leading the way in making gaming affordable to us all and not just the rich.
Played the demo only and even tho its short it leaves your appetite very wet. An exciting prospect, Intense fights with no battle the same, amazing moves and even better counter attacks that dont get boring, cinema style camera angles which dont leave you frustrated but more engrossed in the battle, clever enemies and destructable battles zones, a mixture of the matrix and the powerstone game on the dreamcast galaxies ago. Its definately in a world of its own, inevitably you will get bored of the game, but at the moment I dont see how. This is a must buy game, the creators have poured masses of time into this game and the outcome is pure brilliance. Its not just a pretty girl weilding swords, its a uniquely crafted Action adventure game with enough pizazz to make you phone in sick for the day.
Right I have to firstly say I am not a huge fan of these types of games.
However, I was totally bowled over by they way this game plays. So fluid its like your in an action movie.
Graphics are beautiful, great scenery and the sound is cinematic which adds to the great action.
This is on my list to buy for sure, PS3 has been slow building up its game collection but this is the start of the end of no games to play.
The first thing you will notice when you play this game is the beautiful graphics. After that you are plunged straight into wave upon wave of fights which do require skill and timing rather than just plain old button mashing to progress.
The story line itself is interesting and entertaining which will make you want to keep progressing through and the use of the six axis motion controller is used when firing projectiles towards your foes or when you get tossed up into the air which is a nice touch to be honest.
To make you keep playing this game rather than complete it once and then for it to collect dust the guys that created Heavenly Sword have created a rating system upon how elegantly and efficiently you fought against your enemies and the better you do the more exclusive content (artwork, behind the scenes etc) you unlock which means you would be going back to certain levels trying and trying again to get the maximum rating.
Granted there is no online play but in my opinion the game can hold it's own enough to warrant no online play. I mean sure Co-op offline or online would be a blast but that would interfere with the storyline too much and to me that is what keeps you playing this game.
So in my opinion if you want to see the early stages of how powerful the PS3 can be, especially on the final showdown chapter of this game I would heavily recommend this game.
The problem with this game is it becomes increasingly tedious very quickly. If I could sum Heavenly Sword up in one word that word it would be 'shallow'. Yes it may look nice but it's all looks and very little substance. This is compounded by the fact that there was a lot of hype surrounding the release of this game and many people were waiting a long time for it to be released. My advice is do not buy Heavenly Sword. I'm just glad I only rented it (and I still feel like it was a waste of money). My review may be somewhat harsh but I'm just being realistic. 30 odd pounds is a lot of maney to spend on six hours worth of gaming that gets boring after the 1st 20 or so minutes. If you're in to this type of game then hold on to your money and wait for God Of War to be released on the PS3 instead, thats what I'll be doing.
