Twenty-five years in the future. Governments have outsourced military operations to private multinational corporations. As Shane Carpenter, a newly enlisted soldier in the Mantel army, you are seeking fulfillment and thrills by fighting for a good cause. Thanks to their high-tech arsenal of vehicles, deadly weaponry, and performance enhancing bio-medical support, the Mantel Corporation's ruthlessly efficient soldiers are the most feared by terrorists, dictators, and the corporation's political enemies.

Your conflict begins in a war-torn country in South America, where you have been sent to fight a vicious rebel faction, The Promise Hand. At first glance, all is well, but things quickly begin to look a little strange...

Impeccable FPS Credentials - From the developers of the critically-acclaimed TimeSplitters series and the publishers of Far Cry and Ghost Recon: Advanced Warfighter.

Become a Mantel Trooper - Fight the merciless guerrillas of the Promise Hand with the most advanced gear, the fastest vehicles, the deadliest weapons - and Nectar, Mantel's battlefield-optimised performance-enhancing medication.

Boost your Fighting Abilities with Nectar - Empowering Mantel troopers with fighting abilities such as Nectar Focus, Nectar Foresight, Nectar Perception and Melee Blast. Using these skills, troopers are able to detect and avoid imminent danger as well as deliver powerful attacks in close quarters.

Mature and Compelling Storyline - A tightly integrated storyline makes Haze an immersive narrative experience as well as a cutting-edge shooter.

Cutting-Edge Gaming Technology - Featuring the Disparity Rendering System shaping the players' views of the world on and off Nectar. Haze also features an entirely streamed experience with no loading times between levels.

State of the Art Multiplayer Modes - Fire up your console for online battles and choose from a variety of online modes including furious 4-player co-op action!

After playing the game (i'm around 2 hours in and just finished my first mission as a rebel) i thought i'd just let people know my thoughts.

i've read the reviews this week with horror i pre oerdered the game on the basis of positive previews and videos of the game running it looked and sounded like a fun variaton on the fps genre and i think it is.

I think people where expecting a triple a all guns blazing gold star game and what we have is a run of the mill fps which is no bad thing it does have a nice twist in the begining you dose up on nectar all the time as it makes the game easier to play once you switch sides you have to resort to your normal fps game type.

The idea of nectar distorting reality is well played if a little over the top especially in the dialouge department but when you have the disruptions and the nectar is taken away you do kind of miss it and it makes you realise what the writers were trying to do.

Graphics are most peoples complaints and there not the best by a long shot but niether are they the worst it is not drakes fortune high def top notch texture type graphics but they do the job and i've yet to witness any pop up or slow down.

The main problem i see are that the game is very linear and after playing gta for the past few weeks it is a slight let down when you get pushed along this tunnel like path if this is the same on multiplay i can imagine cod4 fans will be very dissapointed.

I wish i could give this game a mark out of ten because it deserves a seven at least it is middle of the road gaming some will like it others will hate it, i'm really enjoying the run and shoot type gameplay and the over the top story

at the end of the day it is a game worth playing and it will give you a few hours of pleasure just dont expect the best fps ever and you may want to wait for the price to drop

There is alot of bad feedback about this game and yeah its not as good as I thought it was going to be when i read about it and watched trailers and stuff but for £9.99 can you really go wrong? I got a new shooting experience another game for me to work through. So it didn't live up to the hype? so what many games don't these days there was just too much hype. It's a good game and if it's still £9.99 at the time of reading then buy it now! The graphics are not brilliant the AI is pretty bad but all in all its a good little shooter with a very good concept. It's not exactly Halo or COD but it'll certainly do for £9.99

Not the greatest, not the worst on PS3

I have played through this game now, and have to say it is a very strange experience, some parts look really quite good, while others look incredibly poor, and a couple of sections are simply unfinished, some parts I really liked playing through, while others were an absolute chore.

There are a couple of glimpses that this could have been a classic, the swamp level looks simply stunning, although it only lasts five minutes, if the whole game looked like this it would have made it easier to ignore some of the other huge faults.

Top of this list is the AI of your friends and foes, it is woeful, your friends constantly run into your line of fire, while your enemies will often just stand around not reacting to you or their surroundings, in the village section I watched as two mantel troopers walked casually straight past me, along an alleyway and into a wall, and attempted to keep walking, all in the middle of a fire fight!
Also the inane chatter, particularly from the rebels becomes extremely annoying, the same old lines delivered over and over and over again, I stopped reviving them in the end just to get some peace and quiet, it's not as if they are any use anyway, I have not tried the co-op as yet, it might make that better.

The level design and objectives leave alot to be desired too, like make your way to the top of the hotel and escape, killing troopers along the way, far too similar to making your way to the top of the land carrier later on, killing troopers along the way.

Now the unfinished levels are two of the vehicle based ones, particularly bad is making your way up to the observatory, after being killed, the game reloaded, but all the scenery, except the sky, and a few of the grass tufts had disappeared, driving forward caused instant death, the game reloaded again, I rammed an armoured car, and the road just vanished, and on another occasion, the console crashed and had to be hard reset, it is unacceptable that a game should be released in this state.

As has been mentioned before, although the graphics of the scenery and the characters are good, the rotten 2d trees and flickering textures, and horrendous pop up later in the game spoil any good effects that there are, we know that the ps3 can do better than this, and with games that do not require a huge install of 3.6 GB too.

Having said all that, I did find myself enjoying the game, the gunfights are tight and engaging, I must be one of the few that did not find the story that bad, it is badly acted though that much is true!
I really liked the beach and freighter section, the village fight is dark and moody, there are just a couple of levels like escorting the carrier over the bridge that are a pain.

The nectar element of the game is fun, especially lobbing a nectar grenade into a group of troopers and watching them freak out, and kill each other and then themselves, and using it yourself sends you on a frantic killing spree to keep the gauge high.

So, is Haze worth playing, in my opinion it is, but not at full price, the campaign is quite short and the multi player uninspired, but it has
enough good set pieces to keep you going til the end, some of which I would happily play again.

Some of the reviews on line are just ridiculous, despite it's faults, Haze plays way better than Blacksite, Timeshift or Turning point, it seems too many people were willing to trash it before they started playing it.

           does not meet expectations

Good effort is made in the 1st level, about 1 hour of playing it gets boring. Graphics of scenary are decent, weapons arent great. online play is not straight forward, alot of missions but the problem is you cant read the mission objective because the writing is too small. on the whole a poor 1st person shooter.

           no wow factor, just average

          | | See all killtherhythm08's reviews (4)

everything about this game was average, online, the gameplay, the plot, and the ending was a bit rubbish. The moral message of this game......drugs are bad.
